Wrist-watch technology

I'd like advice on:

1. What to buy as a replacement for a Casio Databank watch that's wearing out:
another Casio Databank, or is there something out there with a bit more functionality?

2. Care of the Casio Databank or similar watch: Should I avoid pressing keys with
my fingernail? If so, how would I press them? Does permanently covering the
keyboard with transparent tape help avoid wearing it out?

I'm only interested in something that straps to the wrist, so it's with me all the time.
A typical use is that I can set it months ahead to beep 2 hours before a dentist
appointment and display "DENT". I'm not looking for something that connects
to the Internet, but it would be nice to have a few more features, such as
more than one daily alarm; a "weekdays only" option on daily alarms;
repeating reminders e.g. at a certain time every Tuesday, etc.

I mean: these watches have been around for more than 20 years;
surely someone's improved on them in all that time?

The most-used key on the keyboard, the zero, is heavily dented
from overuse, and harder to activate. Sometimes pressing a key brings up
a different letter from what it's supposed to. Most of the time it works fine.
After it started occasionally malfunctioning I covered part of the
keyboard with transparent tape, also covering an edge of the keyboard that's getting loose;
this may have solved the problem by stopping water from sneaking in (e.g. rain)
and maybe it's OK now but I'd like to start thinking about a replacement
since I expect it'll stop functioning sooner or later; besides, it might be
handy to have more than one for a while, especially since I'm starting to avoid
putting in some of the more frequent alarms out of fear of wearing it out.

I hate to say it but the answer is yes, they have been improved, they are now called smartphones. :) Seriously, the data watch business died as soon as hand held smart devices and phones got better. I haven't seen much new development in that area in years. Several devices have moved to include phones but not data. I'm Watch is a phone plus watch device runs Android for example but no data included. Others have included GPS and altimeter or barometer info and dive watches have other sensors but that is about it.

I guess I'll just have to get another Casio Databank, then; at least they're still available.
Frustrating that nobody's come up with anything better in all those years!
