Looking for suggestions on tools that display Projects List in interesting ways

I like tools like OminFocus and Things (even NirvanaHQ), but I feel they are a little lacking when just looking at the Projects List level.

This might mean I might want something that is more of a Project Management tool than a Task Manager, but ideally they can handle both. I feel Things and OmniFocus have good views for tasks, but don't want a separate tool for Projects.

FWIW - I sometimes treat Projects just as Outcomes ... even if there might be one step, I want to get the Outcomes down so I can prioritize these between active vs Someday/Maybe.

Any suggestions for tools that do more with the Projects List view than most?

For ground-level & 10,000-foot project overview, most of the time these days I use the hierarchy in the Projects tab in OmniFocus. If I'm working on a major initiative with lots of projects (like the modernization project at work with over 180 applications that need to be upgraded) I prefer to use a kanban board so I can see what's in flight in what status at a high-level. This is really helpful when planning and having 20,000 and 30,000-foot high-level meetings to plan architectures and long-term project runways.

I’ve wrestled with the same tension — task managers (Todoist…) do a great job at the next-action level, but when you zoom out, the Projects List can feel pretty two-dimensional.

One thing I’ve done for collaborative projects (not for my solo projects) is create a Microsoft List with a few custom fields (Title, Start Date, End Date, Status, Dependency, etc.) and then layered on the built-in Gantt/Timeline view. All that seats in TEAMS, That gives me a way to see collaborative projects not just as flat outcomes, but in terms of flow and sequence. It’s lightweight compared to a full project management suite, but still grounded in my GTD ecosystem.

Do you use the "All Projects" view in Things? This is my preferred method for reviewing projects. It's not perfect, but I find it better than the sidebar view.

It lists all projects, as you have organized, in the main panel where To-Dos normally show. Use Quick Search and just type "All Projects" and you're in business.

There's also a URL, if that's easier: things:///show?id=all-projects.

I think the right setting of Omnifocus will perfectly suits to your needs. With the pro version you will be able to use "perspectives" with is a view of task or projects you can make as you like. The learning curve of OF may be touchy however it is the best software I ever use for running GTD. I use it regularly since OF1. The last version OF4 is powerfull and great. Anyway, if you choose to use it, take time to understand how it works and build you GTD system step by step, little by little. OF can be the best or the worst system depending on the way to use it, but once it is set it is just a simple, efficient and astonishing tool.

Do you have a screenshot you can share. I can't visualise what you have suggested.

I do struggle with this. I am a visual person and a list for Next Actions is ok, but I find a list of Projects very visually unappealing. I'm not in the Apple ecosystem so I can't use OF.

Any suggestions for tools that do more with the Projects List view than most? I’ve also been checking out StreamVouch to see if it offers features that could help with this.
If you’re looking for something that gives more depth at the Projects List level while still handling tasks, ClickUp is a strong choice. It combines project management and task tracking in one interface, letting you see and prioritize outcomes across projects. Wrike also offers strong project dashboards and visual tracking, while MeisterTask provides a clean list view of project tasks. TickTick has a simple interface with timelines and lists, suitable for small teams or personal projects. Paymo combines project management with time tracking for a comprehensive overview. For your use case, ClickUp is likely the best fit.
