Hand held digital recorder compatible with Mac

I have been unable to find a good quality micro digital recorder to download voice recordings into my iMac; all seem to be Windlows based.

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with a good small digital recording device I could research and buy that would download the voice recordings to my iMac G5?

Thanks much. Better yet, one that would work with voice recognition!

I would like to stay within $100-$300 but would consider more depending on features.

I know the iRiver 7xx and 8xx MP3 players have recorder features and there is a Mac iRiver client for getting files off of the device. You can probably pick up a 7xx or 8xx on eBay for a very good price.

We have a winner! Last year I found a terrific, pure Mac solution. You'll need a hard drive-based iPod (not the Nano) and the Belkin TuneTalk for iPod [amazon search for Belkin F8Z082-BLK]. If you already have an iPod, it'll only cost you $40-$50 to add CD quality recording that's incredibly easy to use.

My lab uses them, and my wife and I both have one for personal use. They've been absolutely bullet proof in the year+ I've been using them.

Question back to Tim

I am trying to find if your solution works with my iPod. It is about 3 -4 years old; 40 gig with the scroll wheel, but the four function buttons are across the top rather than on the wheel.

Thanks for your quick feedback!

MicroTrack M-Audio may interest you

I've been researching field recorders. The MicroTrack M-Audio is the one I purchased about a month ago. It's a good combination of portability with advanced features. It's about $300, which includes everything needed to start recording immediately. Larger capacity flash memory card could be added to replace the 128mb card that comes standard. Depending on the record settings, you can get a lot of record time. Here's a link to an extensive review.

M-Audio shows list price of $499, but I found several online stores selling it for $300.

The M-Audio site has quite a few FAQs about Mac OS X questions and downloads.

I hope this is helpful. Good luck with the search and research.
