A Weekly Review does help

Last week I didn't do my weekly review and this weekend I did it 2 days late. That means I was 9 days late with my weekly review - the last time I did my weekly review was 16 days ago. In the last few days, I noticed that I started slipping. I didn't have a full grasp on what my active projects entailed anymore. My context lists started to look a bit foreign to me. I had been working on some customer projects with deadlines, which meant that my other projects were pushed a bit in the background, although I did work on some here and there.

I noticed though that the Weekly Review allowed me to become aware again. Many may be able to wait this long between reviews, but I'm obviously not one of them. I did learn though that I had learned a new habit last year - the weekly review.

I'm with you!

I freak out if I don't do my weekly review. I actually look forward to it toward the end of the week when control starts to slip away from me. Honestly, if it weren't for having to drag my laptop with me I would do it even while away on vacation!

Still trying to make time for the higher altitudes, though. Usually I'm all "weekly reviewed out" by the time I get to that.

I hear you. Personally, I don't review higher altitudes during the Weekly Review; I check those separately.

Balance is the Key

I am in the same boat as the person who wrote the original post.

I get tied up in the "big rock" projects and sometimes slip the Weekly Review. Then, when I feel like things are all "jumbled up," I realize this, get back on track, and all is well again (yyyyeeeessss........ "mind like water"). It's hard to find a balance between "big projects" and taking time out to do the review. But, as the original person also said, making it a habit helps.

As for "high altitude" reviews, I try to get away, at least once every other month, to do this. I escape to the mountains or a park for an afternoon and focus on such. The "mind like water" feeling that comes from this is incredible! :)

I find myself here too -- more often than I like to admit... But the reality is that 'maintaining my productivity system' IS a big rock. It is something that I really should be doing... "sharpen the saw" and all that jazz. No doubt, this is a Quadrant-II activity (warning: link is to a PDF) -- Important, but not Urgent. Which, really, is where we want to spend the bulk of our time, right?

I know I'm preaching to the choir... sometimes I just need to remind myself; especially since I'm already 3 days late on this week's review. (sigh.)
