Here's what David Allen told me...
About 18 months ago, David Allen, Eric Mack, and I were doing a test recording to see if Skype would work for recording podcasts. Once the wires were twisted together and we began conversing in earnest, David asked me,
"So... how is Marc? How are you doing? Are you black belt?"
I replied,
"Am I a black belt? No... I'd say I'm a solid brown belt and have occasional lapses into black-beltedness."
He then asked,
"But you know when you're slipping, when you're getting out of shape, right? And you know how to get yourself back in shape?"
I replied in the affirmative.
"Then you are at black belt," he said. "My karate teacher once told me that the true sign of a black belt is not that you operate at peak performance every minute of every day bu that you are in tune with yourself to know when you are out of balance and know exactly what you must do to get that balance back."
Hope that helps... it sure gave me a lift!
