Blackberry (OS10) for GTD

Hi Everyone,

Allow me a friendly vent please...

I know Blackberry is pretty much gone - truly unfortunate as it was as close to an All-In-One solution as you can get.

It had fantastic apps for Email (Hub - I preferred an IMAP implementation), Calendar/Alarms, Contacts, and To-Do (Remember) that covered pretty much everything GTD-wise.

The Remember app had a Tasks section (for Actionable items), Notes section (for Non-Actionable items) and Tags section for cross-reference purposes (like Contexts or shared References like insurance etc.) . You could create folders in each section for organization purposes (Actions, Projects, Areas, etc in Tasks for example and Someday/Maybe, Checklists, or References in Notes).

Each task/note had a field where you could enter checkboxed items - great for Projects (A) and Checklists (NA).The best GTD feature of the Hub for BB (but not the Android versions) was the Flag - once an email was flagged it would show as an entry in the Remember app, and from there you could tag it with the corresponding context tag and move on - it keeps a copy of the original email which great for Waiting For type of tasks. The tasks could be set up as recurring and tagged with multiple tags. Notes too tags-wise.

Also there was a field for uploading files - great for reports or references to keep handy. It also allowed you to link it with the Calendar app so it would show an entry next to the meeting time slot - great for Agendas.

If they continued to support it they would probably improved certain blemishes like: completed tasks not hidden from view (they fixed that in Android version of BB Tasks); or searching within body of text, not just the title; or allowing multiple tag search, but for day-to-day stuff one tag or just title search would do.

Full backup is just that FULL as it restores everything - but for online/cloud backup, you could sync it with Evernote (built-in), and there is an app (<2$) that would allow you to sync it with OneNote.

It syncs with MS Outlook (Calendar and Contacts) only, but you don't need the MS Outlook Tasks/Notes sync as it's better to use the Remember app/flag feature for that. An with the Windows Blend application you could mirror your Blackberry phone on the PC via Wi-Fi, while with the Windows Link application you could establish a remote access to your Home or Work PC so whatever you have there is accessible (provided you have access granted at work of course).

Truly sad they nixed the platform... :(

Regards,

Sasha
