Can you recommend a good GTD / Life Coach (in the UK) ?

Hi

Anyone know of a really good (but not insanely expensive) GTD Life Coach based here in the UK?

Background
I am new to GTD and am also at something of a fork in the road in my life. A friend suggested getting Life Coaching. I don't know very much about Life Coaching but I guess it's partly about getting into the David Allens higher altitude conversations 20,000+ ?? I understand you can get it free if you volunteer to be a Guinnea pig for a student who is learning how to do Life Coaching. But then it occurred to me that I might combine both Life Coaching *and* GTD, and actually it might be worth paying for that rare coach who is good a both skill bases...

Any thoughts about:
- What sort of money should I spend?
- Any particularly qualifications I should look out for?

Thanks

J

EDIT: To get clear, I am really looking for primarily a good Life Coach, but want one who also understands GTD.

Hey, J!

I do not mean this to sound over simplistic but... participating voraciously in the forums is one way. And you won't have to be anyone's guinea pig!

Yes, I know we're focused on GTD, but you have the opportunity to share as much as you're comfortable sharing with an incredibly diverse group of all ages, from a multitude of industries and locales, with similar stresses and challenges and complexities. I know from personal experience that this is a group happy to help you muck about in the 20,000+ as well as way down at the runway.

I completely understand the appeal of one-on-one coaching... I'm not trying to minimize it at all. If you're up for it, though, try a couple of posts with 20K-50K questions you might ask of a coach and see what kind of response you get. It's also a great chance for us to learn from each other.

Good luck on the journey!

Thanks - that's extremely good to know and I'll certainly bear that in mind.

Nonetheless my request stands :)

Hi J,

Thanks for your post.

I may be able to help with half of what you're asking, the GTD part. I don't know of a life coach in the UK. My suggestion is to consider whether a combined life coach and GTD coach will get you what you're after. I think you'll get better GTD coaching for free in this forum than from someone who claims to be an expert but has no specific training in how to coach others about GTD. So I recommend finding a good life coach and not expecting that person to have expertise in GTD. Or go for GTD coaching, which will support every part of your life.

If you get to the point where you know that GTD coaching is what you need, have a talk with Next Action Associates. I know them personally. In fact, one of their coaches used to work here at David Allen Company before moving to the UK. NAA are the only certified GTD coaches in the UK. Here's a link to their blog, with useful posts about GTD, and their contact information.

Thanks John. Interesting.

Yes, my attitude is that mostly I want a good Life Coach, but that I want someone who already understands GTD so that we're speaking the same language. i.e. I don't particularly want GTD training as such at this point (as this will no doubt be rather expensive!). If GTD is so good, surely it can't be all that hard to find a good life coach who also has GTD experience... no?

Hello J,

I live in the UK. I've attended a GTD course and a 'David Allen in person' event, both took place in London and were delivered by Next Action Associates, and both were very good events. I made some other contacts at the events and two of them might be useful to you:

Stress Free Productivity

This is run by Michael Brathwaite, who's a good guy. I haven't engaged formally with SFP, but Michael was very helpful to me on an informal basis.

Stillworks

I've just had a package of one-to-one coaching from the founder, Michael Townsend Williams, on re-energising my GTD practice. Another good guy! What attracted me to approach him was that his perspectives and skills go a lot wider than GTD (Yoga, coaching and so on). The coaching was not cheap, but it was extremely beneficial. Hence in my view good value. I found that the GTD elements that we worked on led naturally into areas that might be called life-coaching. I'm much clearer now on my overall direction and goals than I was before and on how to achieve them, using GTD.

Hope you find what you need.

Simon
