Changing Focus -- suggestions?

A key to moving through a list of next actions is to focus on each one until complete, then refocus on another and move on.

Interestingly, whether your just-completed action was wildly successful or not so good, it can claim part of your attention. Any suggestions on how to dismiss that just-completed action, put it behind you, and focus on the next?

Thanks,
Rob

Hmmm. If I had to guess at a solution, I might try immediately reviewing the project of the just-completed action. I would suspect the concern might be coming from "hmm are all the next actions for this project in there? Are there any planned actions that I should promote to next actions because of what I've just finished?"

I'd try that, anyway.

Cheers,
Roger

I like to mentally close off an action by recording that I've done it in my project plan document. I keep a checklist of possible actions, and when I've done one I check it off. Mentally it closes it off, but is also really good for later on when my memory fails and I think "I can't remember if I sent off my acceptance of the consultant's proposal or not", I can just review my checklist and see.

What's claiming part of your attention? Is your brain thinking about what's next or did it spawn some new idea that might add value later on? If you want to put it behind you you have two choices: either act on it (i.e. do the work as it shows up) or capture it and toss it in your inbox for processing and organizing later (i.e. define the work from that thought).
