Contexts: mix or locations based?

I continue playing with contexts. Not sure if that would double my productivity so looking for advice. In my setup I use a mix of tools (Mac, Phone), location (House, Office) and action (Google, Read, Write) contexts. I thought it would be nice to make them all to equal ground, i.e. location. I have not too many: House, Office, Car, Restaraunt (when waiting for someone). And I can assosiate particular actions with each of them. Did anyone tryed that? What are pluses and minuses?

Mutually exclusive

not sure if I understood.. :confused:
would the contexts be mutually exclusive? I mean, will you consider you can read/write at home somethings you cannot read/write at the office? (multiple categorizing the same action would be a nightmare)

a crucial question would be: when are you looking at your contexts? what triggers you to access one of the list? this helped me choosing how many of them I wanted. ended up with fewer and the system got much better.

Not sure if I understand but FWIW I have a mix of contexts. Some are based on location

@Shop
@Cedars Pasture
@local town
@far away city

Some are based on tools or people

@outside with help
@phone
@computer Grassroots
@computer Internet

If only by location makes sense to you then do it that way but there is no rule about how you define your contexts, you have to adapt them to what works for you. You may find a mix of location and tools is more efficient

Whatever split makes sense to you for when you might naturally ask the question "so what shall I do next?". For example - if you go by location - would your answer to that equally be something that is on the computer, around the house, on some other device, etc - or would you instinctively 'rule out' a portion of your next actions because you're not really in that context.

Hope that helps!
