Converting from Palm (Treo then Centro) to iPhone (and I have a Mac Desktop)

I am in the painful process of converting from Palm pilot then Treo, then Centro (which I used seamlessly for the last 14 years) to iPhone (always on a Mac). What are good apps for:

to-do lists
project management
contacts (I'm just using iPhone right now)
calendar? (I am just using iPhone right now)

I do not know where to start to duplicate the wonderful integrated Palm system...... Any ideas from former Palm users are greatly appreciated.

Omnifocus is the Mercedes of to-do lists. With it, you may not need a project management tool.
The standard apps are fine for me for calendar and contacts.
Try a dropbox syncing note app for notes. Evernote to throw stuff in.
It really shouldn't be too hard to switch. Give yourself a weekend to do it.

As already mentioned, OmniFocus is great. When it comes to project management you should have a look at Merlin and OmniPlan. OmniPlan is suitable for personal project management (some may argue it's also perfect for more), Merlin is the pm software for the mac.

I'm also a former palm user. I have had a number of Palm OS devices starting with the original US Robotics Palm through the Handspring days and finally to Treo. I still have my Treo phone but have migrated all my other stuff to my iPod Touch. No iPhone available on the only halfway decent cell network in my area.

I use Omnifocus for all my GTD lists and projects. It also handles most of the project management I need to do. What I need beyond that is kept as notes in DEVONTHink. I don't have to do complex project management that would need some specialized tool with GANNT charts or anything like that.

Contacts are the standard Mac address book,

Ditto for Calendar

Note taking and general reference stuff is in DEVONTHink and DTToGo. I tried Evernote but ditched it quickly and no Yojimbo on the iPhone. DT is much more powerful with a fairly steep learning curve and the iPod/iPhone app is still very new with some rather rough edges, esp. syncing

I also use 1Password on both mac and iPod to keep all my various passwords in sync.

Try Intention+ally for GTD

I tried OmniFocus as soon as it came out (years ago) and found it to be way too unintuitive. I admire OmniGroup for having the first app that truly adhere's to David Allen's methodology on the iPhone, however, Apple hadn't fully developed their UIKit and CoreData frameworks at that time. As a result, OmniGroup had to settle for an unintuitive user interface and a data model that is not fully supported by Apple.

So I decided to make my own -- I call it "Intention+ally". It does GTD without hogging space on your device or trying to be something it's not:

* Its user interface is intuitive! (for example, tap & hold on any Action to convert it to a Sub-Project).

* It integrates your on board Calendar and Contacts apps (the ones that come with the phone) into your Actions. These sync with their desktop counterparts on your Mac.

* Uses Twitter-style hash-tags to permit you to fine-grain your contexts into as many sub-contexts as you like.

* Search: Scroll to the far left and enter search terms or tags into the Search box. For example, enter "#internet" to reveal all tasks with the #internet context; enter "#internet #home" to refine that search to those items that should be done at home).

* Intention+ally is free to try and buying it costs half as much as the OmniFocus app!

If you live on your phone, then I think my app wins vs. OmniFocus; Intention+ally's database syncs to your Mac via your iTunes sync. However, if you prefer to do your weekly update on your desktop and you can tollerate OmniFocus's user interface, OmniFocus wins (for now!). I am developing a web interface for Intention+ally that is waiting on the release of Apple's upcoming iCloud service (I'm excited about this!).

Check out the Support page and Forums for OmniFocus:

Incidentally, I work hard to avoid needing a support page. It's the 21st century; apps should be self-sufficient and intuitive!

Again, I am the developer of Intention+ally and I am at your service.

On the Mac: Omnifocus, BusyCal
On the iPhone: Omnifocus for iPhone (Forecast view lets you see your todos, and calendar events on one screen), WeekCal (Mini Calendar and Agenda view are my two most used views, and you can save events as templates for quick entry on new events on the go)
