digital recorders and pencils

Two gadget questions:

1) I would welcome suggestions for a small robust digital recorder that allows easy digital transfer of voice data direct to a PC (ideally via USB).

2) I am using the Eversharp pen as my 'always in pocket' writing device - perfect size, write upside down etc. But it has not withstood the punishment very well, and is annoying me. I either need a nice tiny mechanical pencil with a fat lead size or another choice for small pens that fit in the pocket with my keys.

Ideas on the above points would be most appreciated!

Re: digital recorders and pencils

Get you a real "Fisher Space Pen" bullet pen. http://www.spacepen.com

http://www.thewritersedge.com/fisher.cfm then click on Extreme Photos.

If you really want one that will stand up to punishment get one of the titanium coated ones.

The brushed chrome one is nice too for a less expensive one.

If you are more into comfort then you may want to check out a Sensa Minx. They use the same pressurized cartridge as the space pen.

Not sure about the recorder. I use a Sony ICD-B5 and I can use a headset patch cable to get the information into my PC if I need to. Usually I just process it as another inbox.

Hope that helps,

- Mark

Low Cost Solutions

Thanks - I do have a matte black Fisher bullet pen but have been disappointed as A) the black paint is scratching off after only a few months, and B) The pen often comes apart instead of opening correctly.

I will probably ask for a replacement, but in the meantime I bought a cool little pen for $4.25 http://www.zebrapen.com/products.cfm - it fits well in the small pocket of a pair of Levi 501's.

While we are on the subject of cheap notetaking devices, I recently bought the 'Rite in the Rain Student Notebook', which fits well in the back pocket of a pair of Levi 501's (hey, I guess I am not in the same demographic as the 'evening module' crowd!). Anyway, the notebook costs $1.99 and the paper appears to be virtually indestructible:

That Sony recorder looks like a good deal - Ebay has quite a few available for low prices.

I use and recommend a Sony ICD-BP150VTP Its digital, comes with great software for your pc is USB compatible, batteries ( 2*AAA ) seem to last ages and its very easy to use ( especially after experiencing an Olympus DS recorder ).

I tried to get a URL for you but the SONY.COM site navigation leaves you with a URL thats ridiculously long.... just search on model name and you will get there.
