my errand list which I write (and update) before going to the store in GTD terms is
- Checklist
- next action
- project

I'd say: none of the above. I'd say it's a context list, that is, a list of next actions
to be done in a particular context; in this case the context is "errands" or
"while out shopping" or "downtown".

I keep a list for each store or type of store I visit frequently. I treat these
as context lists (next-action lists). They act more like context lists than like checklists, but some
people might prefer to think of them as checklists. They're basically a list
of things to buy; the item might be written as "toothpaste" and I think of it
as being an action meaning "while you're there, buy some toothpaste".
I delete it from the list when bought, which is why I think of it as more of
an action list than a checklist.

Next Actions Context

I have one @Errands context in which a variety of types of actions can appear. I know some folks here have different lists, if you travel a lot say or can run some errands by car and others by bike. Some real examples from my current list:

Aveda - a list of hair/makeup products to purchase the next time I'm at an Aveda store (I actually keep this one because I can list specific product names, colours etc. and when I start running low I put an ! in front of that item and I never get the wrong shampoo anymore!)

Get picture frame for Uncle Allen's picture - the dimensions of the print are listed

Get extra keys made for house

Pick up stuff from mother in law's garage

Golf Town - use gift certificate

Hardware store - list of things to get at any hardware store

So some of these are for specific locations and some are general and available in more than one place. For all of them I need to be out and about. Since I rarely have the car, this is a list that I find hard to get to.

For regular recurring groceries, my husband and I use HoneyDew on Blackberry - we can each add items or mark them purchased and it will sync between our phones. The nice thing with this type of list is the item stays there (we are going to need milk again in a few days so why keep typing it out). And specific brand information can be included (e.g., for the only type of kitty litter that seems to work!).

Hope some specifics help - I know I always like seeing actual examples. Some of these are Next Actions that are part of a project (e.g., the stuff in the garage is part of our "Move into new house" project. Some are one-offs (e.g., use the Golf Town gift card) although that links to my goal of improving my golf game. Some are checklists of stuff we need (e.g., grocery list).
