File cabinet??

Hi everyone.. I have read David Allen's GTD and am in the process of organizing all my files. I have been to Office Depot and was told that they do not make the front loading file cabinets anymore. Is there any place that we can purchase these special file cabinets without having to use hanging file folders? I have to use the hanging files at work because that's all we have. But I wanted to try to find a file cabinet for my home office, but at a reasonable price. I do not want to spend a lot of money.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Hanging Folders

I know that David prefers to not use them but I actually like the hanging folders where I store one folder in each hanging folder - makes it easier to file since I can easily move them forward or backward to the place I need to add another file. My 2 cents...

I'm not sure what you mean by "special" or "front-loading." Old-fashioned filing cabinets seem alive and well on the Office Depot Web site. You can find used ones many places. A yard sale or estate sale might be the cheapest.

I jsut checked the Office Depot site and there are a bunch of front loading file cabinets. Yes, all seem to come standard with hanging rails but what I did was order these follow blocks for my Hon file cabinets to allow me to remove the hanging folders. Not sure whether I like it better with or without hanging files though so you might try it first before spending a lot of money to fully outfit your file cabinets

I could only find file cabinets with follower blocks on the web. I purchased HON file cabinets at what I felt was a reasonable price; higher than Office Depot but lower than commercial grade.

I bought a file cabinet with the hanging file inserts, but then just took them out, and just use manilla folders. It seems to work just fine.
