Fun and Relaxing Projects

I am recently on a quest to include more fun and relaxing projects into my system. What are the most fund and relaxing projects you are currently working on or have completed in the past?

Worm Composting

Just today I got to remove set up worm composting bins from my project list. I have many outdoor around the house projects that are relaxing.

Thankyou 12 and dragynox, you've just pinged on a lightbulb for me!

I realised that I have almost NOTHING fun or relaxing on any of my lists shorter than 2 year goals. Mind you I do follow a principle of being able to "decide not to do anything on my lists and just enjoy myself", so it's not like I don't have any fun :)

I think I may tackle this with a 20K area of responsibility "Enjoy myself, relax, and do fun things with my friends and family"

Reading Pratchett

Checked one off yesterday. Took the afternoon and read a Terry Pratchett book on my kindle.

Other fun ones on my list:

Lay out cloak on 2nd muslin to adjust for Black Welsh fabric size.

Read kindle samples and decide on save for later books.

Read Anglo Saxon Textiles book and return to Erika. Decide if I need my own copy.

Design flying sheep quilt fabric at Spoonflower with modifications I got from quilt shop.

Fun, relaxing, fulfilling projects

Hi 12hourhalfday (et al),

For 2009, I put on my 10K list: Focus on what I have that I want more of. That "project" includes things like "fulfilling marriage and abundant life" which translated into a movies and events list we're keeping and basing weekend decisions on. Another item was "practice generosity with time, talent, and treasure" which, in turn, fed the decision to "complete the Breast Cancer 3-Day in Seattle, Sept 11-13."

Hope that helps. :)

Best wishes,
Tara

Planning for fun

Project: Fly away and relax

@Home:Pack GTD book, Making It All Work, notebook & colored pens for mindmapping

@Airplane: find desired outcome for a totally unplanned holiday
@Airplane: mindmap areas of focus and projects for me. Anything business related strictly forbidden.
@Airplane: draft NA lists for those ideas
@Cabin, hidden in the forest far away from civilization: start working on those lists
@Home & normal environment after holiday: keep on working on those lists

I am convinced that in order to make GTD stick in the long run I absolutely need to start including personal and fun things in my lists. So I hope to spend the next two weeks drafting plans and starting action on projects including sports and getting fit, getting sufficient amount of quality sleep, spending time in nature, family, friends, ... whatever comes up in a brainstorming session with mind maps, anything with a strong focus on what brings me joy.

I also want to plan strategies for keeping up on those projects when I´m back. Seems like it will require discipline, blocking time as absolute "must do" calendar events for some fun, very clearly visualized desired outcomes and many and very concrete and granular next actions to be written down and included in lists and the system. Anything that will help me intuitively and automatically prioritize fun and relaxing more than I do now and not feel bad about not working on the rest of the lists when I take time to relax.

Yeah, I am quite a boring person since I need to plan my fun this seriously. :D

Yeah, I heard a David Allen podcast (sorry, don't remember which one) in which he says it is perfectly fine to take a nap, play a video game, enjoy the outside, make a parfait cake...

as long as you know what you're not doing, and it's a conscious choice.

As long as everything is written down, and you know the world isn't going to come to an end if you don't plow through your Next Actions list, go ahead and relax.

I think for some of us, that might be the biggest challenge of GTD!

LOL - love your lists :) They show me what my wife's sewing and jewellery making lists would look like

giggling, yeah well you should see the someday/maybe's associated with each major sewing/weaving/spinning/reading/quilting/knitting/naalbinding area.;-)

Oh and I forgot, finish 2007 family scrapbook is a fun one, also nearly done!

and pick out 3 show chickens of both dorking and campines with neighbor kids for county fair and start training them. (the chickens, not the kids, the kids already know what to do http://www.davidco.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif

That sounds fantastic! I don't have a garden right now but "plant a garden in the yard" sounds like a great thing to add to incubate - projects

Thank you for the inspiration!

I am glad it helped, I had the same BFO after posting about procrastinating my home lists.
