GTD and Outlook Tasks, @Waiting For...

Hi, I hope someone can help me how to better use Outlook and GTD.I am an extensive user of Outlook. Currently, I use Outlook Tasks to track tasks or "projects." If I give a employee a task, I usually turn the original e-mail into a task, then add to the task as it comes information and updates come in, until the task is completed. Sometimes the task covers months of work and updates, all added to the task body.

However, there are many times when I send a e-mail out that does not require for me to turn it into an Outlook task. It would be better to simply place it into the @Waiting Folder.

I wish there was a way for me to see Tasks and @Waiting items in one place. I also wish I could add resposne e-mails to an @Wating item (I suppose that when that is required, I should then turn it into a Task!). I like how some programs have "dashboard" features, but I have not found one that works well for me.

I rambled a bit here, but if any one can help me find a cleaner way of keeping up with the multiple tasks and requests for information I have, I certainly would appreciate it.

It seems to me that if you turn all your @waitingfor items into tasks, with the category "@waitingfor" this would give you the functionality you need.

Thanks. I was thinking of some type of "dashboard" where I could see a specific task view and the @Waiting For folder. But I will try the @Waiting For task category.

If you really want a complete list of your "Waiting For" items in one place, put reminders on your @Waiting For list in Tasks, and, if necessary, store the related e-mails in a folder titled @Waiting For Support.

I think this method is a bit cumbersome though when you're simply waiting for a reply to an e-mail. I don't want to have to write "Joe - 080929 - Reply to my e-mail re: whatever" on my @Waiting For list. I prefer to use the @Waiting For folder as a bucket for these types of e-mails. I manage everything else that's not a simple reply the way I mentioned above.
