GTD and politics

Would you risk to associate politics and horizon of focus?

Listening to a local politician speech, today, I had this association. So, thanks to this, I had a different vision about politics. For me it is like to give a perspective, or if you agree with him, it could become your social perspective. Isn't it?

What's wrong with politics?

By which I mean, suppose that you decide one of your ongoing goals is to make sure that the children in your community have access to decent medical care. You could believe it's the right thing to do, or you could just want to make sure your own kid isn't exposed to nasty diseases. Doesn't matter. So what's the next action?

If you're a doctor, it might be possible to set up a free clinic at your practice. But if you're not, you might try to persuade a local hospital to run a clinic at the elementary school. But they'll need funding from the school district, which means you'll need to talk to the school district about appropriating the money. And if the current district administrators won't do anything, you'll need to support candidates who will. That might mean working with other like-minded people, or even running for the job yourself.

That's politics.

Politics, broadly speaking, is how groups of people work together to shape the actions of their government. It's as legitimate a target for GTD as any other human endeavor.

Politics isn't about groups necessarily. Politics is about individuals getting what they want. Life is essentially politics in a broad sense. An example: A baby crying because he/she wants his mommy -- in this scenario, politics is baby using crying as a method to fulfill a need (instinctively or intuitively). As we go through life, we learn to add cognitive methods of achieving goals to whatever intuitive impulses we possess. You could say, EVERYTHING is politics. So, of course, GTD could be used as a tool to be more productive in the game of... politics? ..life!

Just to add.

I looked up "politics" in American Heritage Dictionary just now, and I suppose what *I* mean by "politics" is reflected in sense number 6 in AHD: "the often internally conflicting interrelationships among people in a society." In other words, politics is the essence of human interaction, which rarely (if ever!) is void of conflict of any kind.

I found, in my original thought, politics could add value at your own horizon of focus. And if you have not enough social perspective could help you to find a little bit more

In other words, if I agree with and support Berlusconi, then what happens? I think I am having a hard time understanding the specifics or your sentiment although I am getting the gist of what you are saying.
