How do you divide the line between Calendar and Someday/Maybe List?

How do you divide the line between Calendar and Someday/Maybe List?
I have stuff that I want to do that can only be done in 3 weeks times but I don't know if it should go in the calendar or someday/maybe.

A lot of options

there really are different options that you might explore...

If you are sure you want to do it at some specific time three weeks from now, you put it in the calendar (for example dentist: december 15th, 5pm)

If you are sure you want to do it around three weeks from now, you can put it in the tickler (for example: call dentist when he gets back from his holidays: sometime in december)

Occasionally I put this last type of items in waiting for (for example: "waiting for: dentist back from holiday in december to call him")

I know some people use their someday/maybe list very actively to park any action that they will not be doing in the next week or so. I don't have that habbit.

So you see, there are different options... I would suggest you just pick one, and try it. If you like it, keep on using it, if you don't, try something else...

Could you give an example, please?

For me, someday/maybe was for projects which I'm not yet sure how much I want to do them. Calendar was for among other things reminders. For example "registration for Course 'portuguese basics' starts today", was a reminder for me to decide do I really want to participate that course. Before that I had a someday/maybe project Learn portuguese basics. Actually that project was coincidentally in calendar (as reminder think about today) and someday/maybe. When decision was made, project was moved from Someday/maybe to active project list.

I think there are no hard rules when item should be in someday/maybe and when in calendar (except hard landscape, but that is a bit offtopic). Maybe the most important question is do you want to reminded about the thing at certain day, or just at weekly reviews.

(Currently I have fallen from wagon, and I'm not using GTD, so that's why was instead of is.)

It's not someday/maybe, but a tickler item. If you want to use an electronic tickler, here are three possibilities. Using the day you want to start the project:
a) Put on your calendar as an all-day event: Start XYZ
b) Put on your next action lists as a due task: Start XYZ
c) Put on your next action lists with a start date: Start XYZ (if your list manager supports start dates).

You can use more than one. I am not always good about looking at my calendar, so b) and c) are better choices for me, and I do use a list manager that supports start dates.

I use my calendar ONLY for things that absolutely have to be done ont eh that day or a placeholder for things that have restricted times that I am considering doing.

So a dentist apt is a calendar item as it's a fixed time and date.

Similarly a concert I might attend is a calendar item as well in the future even though I have not committed to it yet because if I schedule something in that particular time I cannot go to the concert.

However if it's something that I may do that has a more flexible start date I either put the physical paper in my tickler file or perhaps set a project with a start date of the first date I could do it.

So right now I have a project of mark orchard in fall with a start date of next week. We may not do it but if we do we need to start then. I have a paper invitation to a business open house that I may or may not go to in my paper tickler file for that day. When that day comes I'll make the decision based on energy and what else is going on whether to attend or not.
