How do you handle...favorite websites and book lists?

Hey,

I have all these "Favorites" websites for my yahoo.com page. Is there anyway to organize these into folders? I'm a beginner with this stuff, so keep it simple for me, ok?

Also, I have all these books that I want to buy/read on my Amazon.com page in the "shopping list" section. Should I just make a separate book list on my Palm Treo, or just keep adding to the Amazon list? My internet access from Palm Treo has the whole small screen thing, so...... What would you do?

I use Safari as a web bowser and all I have to do to create a folder is click on the folder icon on the upper left hand side of the toolbar. I try to keep the number of folders to a minimum and ty to check all the links within one each month so over a year or so I validate all of them. I delete old links and stale folders I don't need. Siince a lot of what I keep is rather hard to locate (google often can't get to the final page but only to the top level) it is important for me to keep the links but for most things I don't bother. Google will find the current stuff faster. True reference stuff I generally print out and file physically.

Also, I have all these books that I want to buy/read on my Amazon.com page in the "shopping list" section. Should I just make a separate book list on my Palm Treo, or just keep adding to the Amazon list?

I have several places for my book lists. For everything that is in kindle format I have it in the saved for later section on the kindle. Since I will only access it when on the kindle and the screen is decent size it works.

For books wanted not on kindle I have a word file alphabetized by author with the various titles under it. Whenever I think of a new book I want I check the kindle version first. If there is one I send the sample to my kindle and read it to decide if I really want it. If there is no kindle version I add the book to my list in word. I send the word list to my treo using documents to go.

I don't use the amazon list much any more and am slowly cleaning it out as a new inbox bucket I need to clear out. It's not to empty yet but that is the final goal.

I don't keep my favorites or bookmarks in any particular service, myself. I keep them in a separate HTML file.

What do you want to do with that list? What's your goal? Kinda hard to give suggestions if we don't know how you want to use the list.

I keep my favorites on delicious.com - this way I can access them anywhere, and I don't have to worry about backing them up because it automatically syncs with my firefox

As for books, I have multiple amazon wish lists - an entrepreneur list, an inspiration list, a software developer list. I probably (eventually) read about 20-30% of what goes on the list. I think that is the best place for them though, so wherever you are you can access the book list online and purchase a book when you want to.

I pretty much only buy books on amazon - helps stop my impulse purchases, which is not really part of GTD except that it keeps clutter out of my house and mind =)

I seem to be the only one who enjoys copying and pasting urls into memos or note attachments on a smartphone. If I have a specific next action that involves a particular website, I'll copy and paste it into the Palm desktop as a note attachment to that action. For lists of links, I put those in a memo. I could go into detail about how I arrange these, but reading a description would make it appear more complicated than it is in practice. So if you have a specific question, I'll answer it.

As far as keeping a separate list on Amazon, that's a good idea if you would purchase those products exclusively through Amazon. I try not to splinter my list repositories, so I keep my different product lists in Palm memos. With books, for instance, I'm more inclined to pick them up from the library than buy them online. If you're not getting everything from where you're storing your lists, then the benefits of the other information the list manager offers (access to customer reviews, ISBN information, price, etc.) would have to outweigh the overhead of maintaining multiple list venues.

Like Sidsara I use delicious.com. It's waaay better than bookmarks.

I have several amazons list. The public one is good to share with family for holiday and birthday gift ideas.

I'm finding however that more and more for books that I don't plan to suggest as gift idea, I'd rather have a simple memo on my palm called "books to buy". This works really well if I see a great book when I'm in a bookstore and I'd like to jot it down, or if I find myself in a bookstore, with some spare time and I'd like some browsing ideas. I'm doing the same thing for music.
