How to lighten the load?

I felt owerhelmed. And decided to move all the projects to Someday/Maybe category untill I feel energized to continue moving them leaving the most important two. But I found out that many of them have a corresponding @Waiting For next action. On one hand It means they are not on my side but on the other hand they have to stay in the system at least till the moment I close this @FW. Do you have any ideas of how to safely remove those projects off my Active lists for some time?

"On Hold" Project Type

I created a project type called "On Hold" for this purpose. So I have:

Someday = I know that I want to do this, but right now I don't have all of the necessary resources to work on it (usually time or money)

Maybe = exactly that - haven't yet decided if I really want to do this, but I'm keeping it on a list while I mull it over

On Hold = I started this one, but am suspending work on it - all project support information is retained

Great idea

Claudia - This is a very cool way to break down your Someday/Maybe system. I can see how I would find value in tagging some of my Someday/Maybe items as "on hold" to let me know that they were active projects at one point in time.

There's a big difference to me between something I have never started but would like to, and something I was working on and just didn't have the bandwidth to complete. Usually I would rather complete the "on hold" items or re-negotiate them as soon as possible.

I'm not sure I want to invest the time in categorizing all of my S/M items with the three types you mention, but I might give it a try for a while and see if it gives me more clarity.

Borisoff - I would suggest that you categorize the whole project in the "Waiting For" context, perhaps with the appropriate next action that you are waiting for in the subject line. That way as soon as the person gets back to you with what you need, you can move the item back to an active project. I find that the more fluid I get with changing items between various categories the more my system becomes leak-proof. Hope that helps.

Have you thought about why they still have a hold on your psyche? If they no longer do, then perhaps you can just remove them. If they still do, then I think that you still need to track them somewhere in your system that will get reviewed regularly.

Do a weekly review, go through 10 old emails, clean a drawer, take a walk. As Yoda says, "There is no try, only do or not do." Technically speaking, your coefficient of moving friction is less than your coefficient of static friction. It's easier to turn than to start to move.

Hmm. It seems to me that you can leave the NA in @Waiting For with a note reminding you that the project is now in Someday/Maybe.
