Internet related question

I routinely clear out cookies/history etc. This means that the address bar should then be empty. However, I have found that two addresses relating to Davidco always remain after the clean out: if I type in www.d, the whole davidco addresses appear. This only happens with one other site that I regularly visit.

How do I clear out these lingering addresses? Could I have accidentally made them permanent?

Thanks

Dave

Dave,

After you clear out your history/cookies, go in to those folders and open them up to see if everything indeed has been cleared.

Also, when you erase the cookies, are you also clicking on the button next to it which says, "delete files?"

You should be clicking on all 3 buttons, "delete cookies," "delete files," and "clear history."

Hi Chris

They are all the steps I regularly carry out - which is what makes me wonder if there is some other step I am missing?

Thanks

Yes, you additionally need to go to "Internet Options", select "Contents", and then disable the "Auto-Complete" option for web-addresses.

Hi Rainer

I'll try that; however, yesterday I tried something: I carried out all of the delete and clear steps, and then typed www.d in the address bar. Sure enough, WWW.davidco.com appeared.

Then I tried www.a, www.b, www.c etc right through the alphabet, but none of my other recent addresses (except for my regular music website) appeared.

Strange how just those two web addresses survive the regular clean down.

Yeah, Dave, I'm not sure why that would be. It doesn't make much sense. But if you follow Rainer's advice, it should eliminate the problem.

Spyware?

But Rainer's advice is to cure the disease by killing the patient. I think Busydave uses auto-complete and likes it.
Maybe it is some spyware interference (not from DavidCo of course)?

Hi Tes

I do regular clear outs with the Ad-aware program (very effective), which hopefully will deal with any Spyware issues.

I think I described the effect a little incorrectly: when I type in www.d, a short list appears under the address bar, one is the Davidco address, the other is a longer address which brings me straight to the GTD part of the forum. Even with auto complete cancelled, the short list of addresses still appears underneath.

When I type www.p, the list of all addresses related to my regular music website appears under the address window.

I will mail the problem to Microsoft and see if they have anything to say about it.

A couple of long shots, do you have any ie favourites pointing here?
Or do you have any programs such as an RSS reader which connect to the site?
Either of these could be the cause of your problem.

Dave

Thanks Dave, I’ll try out those possibilities. There is definitely some feature of Internet Explorer that I am accidentally making use of.
