Member's Only RSS feed with full post context

It is perhaps ironic that to read member's only posts via a RSS feed I have to go through an extra step and click on each to visit the site.

I do appreciate the need to keep non-subscribed content hidden from non-subscribers. However, is it possible to get a full-feed text for member's only? Even a 100 word extract would be better that the 40 or so words there now.

I would envisage something like the way the GTD podcast works.

Sounds like a good idea to me

This is hopefully a better idea again or at the least a refinement.

Individual RSS feeds for each forum. Therefore, noise is cut to forums which are of an individual's interest only. And it may be that non-member are unable to see the 'private GTD connect' forums just by default.

Looking into it...

Hi David,

We'll look into it. Unfortunately, many RSS readers (and especially the web-based ones) do not seem to support authentication for RSS feeds. iTunes supports authentication for podcasts, which is why we are able to provide a members-only podcast feed. But last time we looked at authenticating the RSS feeds, it seemed even if we did enable authenticated full feeds, there would be many members who would not be able to access this feature in their RSS reader of choice and, as you know, having everything in one place is much of the promise of RSS syndication. So, we'll keep it on the radar and see if much has changed.

Thanks for the suggestion. Always looking for ways to make Connect better. Speaking of which, there are some very interesting developments on the horizon which I think members will enjoy. Can't say more than that for now.

Cheers,
Robert

A further comment. Having used the current RSS feed for a few days now I'm happy with the way it works. The traffic volume is low enough that it can be managed. More traffic (x4 current volume) would be troublesome for me the way it works now.

Print view?

Hmm.. in Opera (on the Mac) I can access rss feeds without any problems, but NetNewsWire, despite having an authentication thingie, won't work.

Alternatively, could you modify (or add) the css for the print view? If'n'I can't read David's UpClose or the Coach's Corner in my fav rss reader, a printout would be the next best thing. But not with the current css view, where one screenful of text renders to 5 pages of dead tree stuff.
