Mind Dump

I dont get this, but then I'm not very good at GTD to begin with. I look at GTD much the same way as I look at Christianity: I think its the best thing out there but I'm not very good at doing it.

Was reading Buzz Bruegmanns notes about the GTD Roadmap seminar he attended in which he relates some info on the mind dump (mind clearing). He stated that we should keep adding to the list.

Do you folks keep this kind list in an ongoing fashion? Wouldnt that mean you list items more than once? Once on the mind dump list and then on the project or NA list?

Having redundant items on mind dump and NA lists seems like a really bad idea. The mind dump was presented in the book as a capture tool: harnessing all those thoughts of "I really have to do X" and "It would be cool to do Y someday." But then those get organized into the appropriate places on NA lists or Someday/Maybe lists. The original capture tool, the mind dump list, gets thrown away.

I have not made a long mind dump list in a long time because I have been capturing next and possible actions regularly, close to when I think of them.

I would assume that the point made in the seminar was that you've got to keep capturing the mental commitments you're making. But collecting them is just the first step: then process, organize, and do them.
