In answer to my question about taking book notes, someone suggested having a notebook with me when I'm reading a book. So I went out and bought a couple of the mini Mead "memo" books. It is 5x3, holds 60 sheets and fits in my shirt pocket.
One side benefit that I've found is that since it is so small, I now always have one with me in my shirt pocket. One of my goals for a long time is that I have wanted to keep a diary, but I've always failed to do it. The reason is that I wanted to keep it on the computer, because my handwriting is so bad. The thing is, whenever I was at my computer, I'd rarely write in my diary, for whatever reason. But now I've found that with this mini notebook that I can write in it when I'm on the subway or in the bathroom. So far I've been writing in my diary every day now. When I get home, I tear out the diary pages from the notebook and put it in my inbox. When I get some time, I type the entries into my computer.
I remember one of the things in the GTD book is that there are a lot of 5 or 10 minute windows in the day. But until I got this mini notebook, I didn't always have something to do because I was away from my desk and supplies. Now I can write in my diary, or sketch out an email. It's pretty amazing.
