Moleskine, projects, contexts

I'm using a moleskine as my GTD system. I have my context lists with my actions on and projects list.

Now theres obviously something simple im not understanding about GTD....Should my context lists contain next actions only? And will I therefor have to move action items from my project lists to my context lists as soon as they become next actions?

I am also new to GTDing, but I think I can answer your question.
Your context lists are ONLY for your next actions. Anything not absolute NA should remain with your project support material. Also, do not plan your projects too much, as things can change and your planning would have been a waste of time. During your review process, you will naturally know what the next action will be, without having planned it earlier. If you have a non-NA item in your head for a project, of course write it down, but don't plan too much.

Thanks Scott i think im starting to understand now.

So if I have a non-NA project item, would this then go under my project list, until it becomes a NA, at which point i re-write it into one of my context lists?

It depends on what you mean when you use the term "my project list".

In GTD the terms "project list" and "projects list" refer to a list that only contains the names of your current projects, sometimes with additional information on the wanted outcome for a certain project.

If you have a list that is about only one project and that list contains the name of this project, additional information on the wanted outcome and sub-projects and possible future actions, then this list is called a "project outline" or a "project pan" and it should be part of the so-called "project support material" for that certain project.

So, if you mean "project outline" when you use the term "project list", then the answer to your question is "Yes". If not, then the answer is: No, put it into your project support material.

As Rainer mentioned, a project list is just that, a simple list of your projects. Only the names of your projects should be on it. Each project may then have a seperate sheet of paper, or maybe even a folder, depending of course on the size and complexity of your project. ANYTHING other than your NA should go on this paper or in the folder.
