Anyone actually used this? Was it worth it?

When I raised the question last year, I believe that several people thought it would be more problematic that helpful.

Meanwhile, I have several shoe boxes of receipts of various shapes, sizes and colors.

Experience with Using NeatReceipt

I am a Professional Organizer who uses the NeatReceipts scanner in both my personal and business life. I recommend it to my clients who are drowning in paperwork including receipts, business cards, tax documentation, etc. I believe it is worth the price given all its features. The scanner itself does an excellent job of creating a PDF copy as well as extracting pertinent info to populate the data base used for exporting. The Export feature of the NeatReceipts software is very good and provides many file format options depending on the paperwork (business card, receipt, etc.) being scanned.

My only disappointment with the device is it does not interface directly with the Mac which I use personnally. I have to first scan the various types of paperwork into a PC based version and then transfer any files I want to export (Quicken, Excel, etc.) to my Mac.

Neat Receipt

Have it, used it, works great, but like any other tool it must be maintained. My original intent was to use it at home & office (I was thinking of scanning invoices but that does take time). Having everything categorized in folders & being able to enter notes is another nice feature. I got it last year at Staples for $199. That was a bit steep, but it's really a small portable scanner.

Thanks for your port. Do you have any thoughts about how to organize the folders in NEAT? Backup strategy? Are you frustrated by teh 300 DPI resolution of the scans that the program does versus the 600 DPI that the newest scanner is capable of?

I used NeatReceipts for over a year but I found that, although it recognized much of the receipt data and was able to put it in the correct field, I had to manually enter something anyway for practically each receipt. Drove me nuts.

Also, Evernote, which I now use constantly, isn't integrated into NeatReceipts' export options. Here's what they say on their website: "First, create a new folder on your computer called "For Evernote." This is where you'll save your scanned PDFs into. You'll then need to tell Evernote to look in this folder for any new documents you've scanned in." And when I upgraded to Lion on my Mac, I could no longer get into the NeatReceipts app. Tech support was awful... I contacted them last August repeatedly, with no response, then in December I got a Customer Service Survey... :confused:

I use a doxie scanner now (http://www.getdoxie.com/). Great interface, saves out to Evernote and many, many more apps... can't say enough good about it.
