need a bit of help regarding CALENDER / DAILY ACTIONS / HABITS

hey guys,

recently my Calender has gone from being a hard landscape as David ALlen suggests, to overflowing with many things that I'm sure would be better suited in a different location/list.

things like;
- jogging (monday, wednesday, friday)
- pilates (tuesday, thursday, friday)
- check if tickets are available for play I want to go to
- read "becoming vegan"
- pack lunch and take to work
- write journal

etc. etc. etc.

any advice on where to best put these types of regular actions?

Take a Test Drive...

In my GTD system, I would put your examples here:

Calendar - if it's not there as an appointment, I'm really likely to skip it
- jogging (monday, wednesday, friday)
- pilates (tuesday, thursday, friday)

Next Actions or Projects (with Next Action on my list)
- check if tickets are available for play I want to go to
- read "becoming vegan"

Daily Routine - I keep a checklist that I try to get through each day
- pack lunch and take to work
- write journal

But that's not always how I've done it... I would say, if you don't like how your calendar is working now... try something new for a couple of weeks - you can always change it or tweak it as you get closer to a workable system for you.

Good luck!

thanks for the simple yet very effective advice Julia! I'll try it out :)

UPDATE

in addition to the above suggestions, I have found an excellent web based application that is helping to remind me of non calender items (among other things like remembering info)

check it out at www.iwantsandy.com

Re: I Want Sandy

I've been trialing this of late as well, have to say its definitely seeming interesting. I usually have my Blackberry with me, so I can get reminders wherever, and it's been nice to be able to send a quick message rather than have to go through the rigamarole of creating a task and setting a reminder, or an appointment, or a note. It pulls everything together quite nicely.

it is a wonderful web based application. it's helping me keep my calender and lists free of trivial stuff like "remember to bring home umbrella from work". now I just email Sandy "remind me to bring home umbrella at 4:30pm" and she emails me at that time with a reminder. fantastic stuff!
