Outlook adjacent appointments

This is driving me crazy - whenever I set up adjacent appointments in Outlook, they display as overlapping in my week view calendar. It seems that Outlook automatically adds some kind of buffer to each appointment and I can't figure out how to disable that. Does anyone know? Thank you,
