Overcoming procrastination

I love GTD. It gives me a full overview of my commitments and goals. With GTD I was always strugling to go through DOING phase. So decided to test something new like Autofocus version 1. It looks like it doesn't care about systematization aspect and focuses on doing. It lacks Calendar, Tickler, @Agenda and @Waiting though.

You can procrastinate using any methodology.

I can't see any difference between procrastination using Autofocus or GTD. You can procrastinate using any methodology. You don't procrastinate if your projects make sense to you.

Totally agree - if there's a project or action you're avoiding doing, moving it around between systems wont help you get it done any quicker (in fact, moving it around between systems may just be another way of avoiding actually doing it!).

Yes and no. A new system -- whether new tools or a new way of organizing what's in the tools -- can definitely cause a productivity surge. I think that's part of why people spend so much time looking for better tools and systems. That surge can help clear out tasks that aren't really that difficult, but are tedious, annoying, or otherwise just not fun to do. (Schedule dentist appointment, file paperwork, that kind of thing.)

But bigger projects that you're avoiding for deeper reasons are more or less immune to this effect. A new system isn't going to make it any easier to figure out long term care for an aging parent, and will actively disrupt the notes for that novel you've been trying to write.

Since you are a Connect member, did you see the "Procrastination" webinar? If not, I highly recommend it. You can find the link to in from the home page, in the archives.
