I am starting over with GTD after being off the system for awhile. I had great success with it while I was working but I have been off work on a maternity leave to care for our first baby and lots of things have fallen by the way side. Now that the baby is older, I am really wanting to get back into the GTD groove but my challenge has been that there are a lot of times when I just can't grab a capture tool so I have had to rely more and more on the weekly review and incompletions list. In the past I found the Trigger List to be really helpful at reminding me of professional incompletions but the personal list always seemed to leave holes for me. Since it's ALL personal for the moment I was going to sit down and re-vamp the list but I thought I'd try to save some time and put the question out there first:

Has anyone else felt the need to tweak the Trigger List. Would you be willing to share your modifications? Thanks!

I think of the trigger list as a 'getting started tool.' Once you're back into the system, and reviewing is built-in, then you should be good. ?

So what steps will you take to ensure you have a capture tool handy? Where in your home can you place a notepad that you haven't? Plus the car and the baby's bag? Where is your in-tray?

It's a new environment for you to GTD in. It will take time to bed in a system that works.

Like David I can't imagine why you think you are not able to have a UCT available. Search for the many discussions about UCT.
If you have a more special problem with UCTs, would please explain further, so we might be able to discuss this problem.

been there,,,fixed that

With a new baby and little sleep, the mind works sort a funny--it is amazing what you remember and what you forget, and when this happens.

Here is something that will work for you-take one of those plastic holders that is attached to a lanyarad that you put your name tag in at a conference and put it around your neck with a small pen or pencil, index cards, a calendar from a check register or other itty-bitty calendar, and wear this all the time. When you go to bed, if you ever get to do that, take it off and put it at your bedside with your watch, glasses (if you wear them), and torch (a.k.a flashlight, it lets you check the babe without turning on a lot of lights and waking yourself up, etc). You might also put in some essential phone numbers, written large enough to read without glasses. Just don't fall asleep with this on if you are holding the baby or sleeping with the baby. I also would keep the car and house keeps on a string around my neck, saved locking the kiddies in the car on a super hot day once. You make your way through the haze. This is a tough time and just because the baby is older does not mean it is easier...you will keep adapting to new schedules and demands for...18 years or so.
