Priorities at Home

When I get home I refuse to use Action Lists. I think I know why. It's always in my head that I need to spend time with my child after work. But there're other things (much smaller and not the same priority) I need to do at home on the list. The question is should I schedule some time for working off the list or schedule some time to play with the child to calm down?

Kids Rule

Great question Boris !!
This really goes to the heart of what GtD is all about for me personally.
That is getting time to do the things in your life that matter to you the most.

In answer to your question though I'd take a very simple approach.
It sounds like you have some stuff to do at home that you just need to get out of your head, captured into your system so you can action it when you need to.

You are resisting having Action lists at home but I see value in having one @Home list that you can just dump the stuff that you need to get done.

The benefit of having this list is that you can forget about the things you need to do and just relax and have fun with your child which is going to be way more important than anything you have on your lists :) IMHO

Cheers

At the Air Force we used to clean up the camp on thursdays, making everything ready for the weekend. I still do this. Thursday is @home day, and that it is.

Maybe related: I tend to have this notion of dividing life into 4 dimensions: personal, social, work, stuff maintenance. Offcourse your child is much more important than managing some stuff.

The time between coming home and 9 pm is normally reserved for family and/or recreation activities.
Later I action the items listed on the @home list.

As Witna mentioned, one needs the list to get relaxed.

I'm coming to blocking time for Home as for Work. Otherwise I feel not confident and healthy about working at home... And I can't devote only one day to @Home actions as sometimes they requre faster reaction. Thanks for your ideas!

I like the idea of designating one day for @home list. I am going to try that too. I may actually designate one or two days for the @home list. And use the rest of my home time to relax or hang with the family. Thanks!

Darla, I will block time for @Home list daily for one hour instead of one day in a week. That gives me flexibility and faster reaction.

Thanks, that's a better idea. I could do 1 hour @home first thing in the morning (if I get up earlier) or probably 1 hour in the evening. do you have a set time or do you change it each day?
