Project or Reference?

I need help figuring out where to file my daughter's dance class schedule, tuition information, papers about upcoming performances etc...

Now I think the papers that have a time associated with them would be filed in my tickler file on the appropriate day. I do refer to the dance schedule at least weekly and the tuition information paper at least once a month. Are these reference files or are they considered a project? Three of my five children dance so it feels like a project to me.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

If it were me I'd put the tuition info in reference because you don't need it that often and the schedule in a project folder that is handy, perhaps very near my tickler file.

So I think I will just create a project folder for all the kids extra activities and classes and just keep the schedule in there or I could also keep the schedule in my tickler folder in the current month and just keep moving it each month?

Thank You

I'd enter your daughter's dance schedule into your calendar and trash the paper. Same with events and tuition due dates - put "Tuition Due ($500)" on each payment due date and set a reminder email X days before, where X = enough time to make the payment on-time.

Either really, do one see how it works and if it's not working change it. You have to adapt GTD to fit you not some ideal view of it as long as you handle all the items and all the levels you're doing ok.

Here's how I'd do it:

Schedule = Reference... but I keep my kids schedules on my iphone.
Tuition = Files in my A-Z under "T"
Papers about upcoming events = Event to calendar, filed A-Z under event name.

Calendar the time related n/a's and file the paper in project support

I agree with MarinaMartin, except that I would file the paper in a project support folder (probably labelled Dance Class). The calendar is where you need this information, so you could toss the paper, but sometimes it is helpful to go back and look at the source document. If that never comes up, no harm having it in the project support folder. If it comes up, you will be far more stress free knowing it is there.

I saw a David Allen post just recently where he fesses up to once tossing the source paper and recently filing it instead.
