Project Subtasks: Where to put them

Hi everyone,

As a relatively newcomer to GTD, I am amassing a long list of projects. Initially something that starts as a task becomes a project once I pay careful attention to all the necessary steps needed to complete it.

On each project, I address the next point of action and move it to my Next folder (I'm currently using doit.im). But what is the recommended location for all of the other tasks in the project? I have been tempted to put them in my Waiting folder, but from what I've read and heard, that is intended for placing tasks where you are waiting on someone else to proceed to the next step. So I have been placing the project subtasks in my Someday folder.

I know there's no hard and fast rule for tasks, but what does everyone recommend?

Thanks in advance!

These go into project support materials. You can see project support materials in the diagram at the left and whenever GTD staff talks about "support" or "action support" or "project support" they mean these.

As a project management professional I also always seemed to have a bunch of tasks (not next actions) that I needed to stick somewhere!

What I did, and I'm not sure where I saw it, was create a format in every project. I use eProductivity which has a memo or notes section on every project document. I paste the following into each project.

>=OUTCOME=<

>=NEXT ACTIONS=<

>=HISTORY=<

>=NOTES=<

Quite frankly, I think the "Next Actions" section is just about the only section I really use these days! But in there I can list out brainstormed future actions (either possible or certain), or link to the project plan or mindmap.

eProductivity my Next Actions that are linked to projects have a direct link to the project. In the project document I can see all the next actions, as well as this notes section. So once I'm done with a next action I actually open the project and mark the next action completed and with the next action section as reference I can, at that point, determine the new next action. If I can't do the new next action right then, I leave the new next action in the right context and then move on.

PigPog method.
