Projects with far off waiting for next action

If you've got a project which is now waiting on something (a person's work for example) and you expect that waiting for to be weeks or maybe a month or two, what would you do with the project and waiting for action?

I could leave both active and where they are
I could put the project on SM, leaving the NA on waiting for
I could put the project on SM, moving the waiting for NA to a tickler for a future date, or a regular period like once a fortnight to send a reminder.

I've not really had many of these type of situations, but now find I have several.

I think your first alternative causes the least confusion in terms of categories. Particularly if you note the delegation date and expected approximate date of arrival in the waiting-for item, it will be clear to you whether you should be doing something about it, especially during weekly review. I recall DA writing somewhere: "long term does not mean someday/maybe, it just means more next actions till the outcome. It still means as soon as possible." (may not be these exact words). In your case, the next actions are owned by the other person.

In my system I set the start date for the project or action to a time when I plan to review it again. That way I don't see the next actions until review time but it's still "active". I see it regularly in review time and can change the start date to get stuff to happen sooner if I need to.

It also means I don't have to rewrite the next actions or move stuff in and out of my system.
