On the lighter side of things, I was wondering how people handle quotes they run across and would like to reference again in the future. Do others keep a @QUOTES list? What suggestions or tips would you give for this somewhat simple, yet nourishing practice?

Re: @Quotes

An @Quotes list would work, but as I am on Linux, I maintain them in fortune files where I can easily search for them. I think of them more as an ongoing Project / filed reference than Actions/calendar events.

BEWARE! It’s an addiction!

I’ve been copying and pasting quotes from various sites and newsletters for several years – I’ve now got a Word document that runs to 122 pages  !

On the plus side though, I make regular random voyages into it (press the down key and let go and see what’s on the page I stop at) and it’s always a rewarding experience.

I’ve managed to confine my pastes to Palm to about ten quotes.

I have a thick paper file of "Quotables" which has served me very well. I esentially write for a living (as a healthcare fundraiser). What challenges me more is good articles, rather than quotations. I do have some "Worth Saving" paper files for frequent reference -- sermons, essays on the Middle East crisis. But for more isolated instances, I have found it helpful to place the article inside the cover of a closely related book I already own. An article on WWI is therefore safely housed with my favorite Testament of Youth, and a zany but rambling essay on 20th century poetry made it into...you know what. 80% may constitute what never gets read again, but the other 20% have afforded me pleasant re-readings.

I use a paper-based tickler file and I follow a suggestion David mentioned in the FAST CD. I place copies of quotes at random throughout the tickler file and run across them when I open up the day's file. Some days I'll have 2 or 3 quotes in the same file and other days there will be none. I also have a set of GTD quotes and occasionally a reprint of something I saw on this BB placed randomly in the files, which I also find helpful & inspirational.

I keep a Data section in my planner with a page marked Quotes. That's where I write down the ones I come across. After the page gets filled, I take a few minutes and type in the ones I want to keep into a computer file.

Firstly, if I posted the entire list on to the forum I’d probably get a house call from the Web Administrator wielding a baseball bat; secondly, you’ve probably heard them all before, thirdly how could anyone resist an invitation like yours – here’s a small few:

"The only competition you will ever have is the competition between your disciplined and undisciplined mind."
James A. Ray

We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline, or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces, while regret weights tons.
Jim Rohn?

"Not the cry, but the flight of the wild duck, leads the flock to fly and follow."
Chinese Proverb

It's not that some people have willpower and some don't. It's that some people are ready to change and others are not.
James Gordon, Medical Doctor

If you want to achieve excellence, you can get there today. As of this second, quit doing less-than-excellent work."
Tom Watson, Founder & Chairman, IBM

A system is not a card or a filing case; a system is the right way of doing things.

"Those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything."
George Bernard Shaw

"From the moment I picked your book up until I put it down I was convulsed with laughter. Some day I intend reading it."
Groucho Marx

"Those are my principles. If you don't like them I have others."

many of them I use as randomly selected signature quotes for my email program. that way, I get reminded of them periodically AND I get to share them with others.
I do check that the randomly selected quotation isn't inappropriate for a given email.

those quotes that aren't suitable for this purpose get filed in a Reference file-which I keep on my computer in a program called StickyBrain, a nice place to collect snippets of information.
