request to add new features?

Hi,
I am new to the forum and the GTD outlook add in. I really like the add in concept. In general I think I am organized in stuffing things away.
I create a inbox folder hierarchy for each project and sub projects, a matching file directory to store documents etc.

does the Davis Allen company take suggestions and implement them in new release? how often do they upgrade the software?

some things I would like to see:

  1. Add a project:
  2. have that process create a folder in my inbox.
  3. have a project remember what folder to file in
  4. have sub projects follow suite and add folder to parent folder(project)
  5. have email option to search any one or all of: all folders/ GTD folders/ project folders.
  6. i would like to see subprojects have a completion pct, etc
  7. I would like to break subprojects down to tasks and do a pct complete.
  8. dashboard by all, by project, etc.

I would like to know if this is an ongoing product or it's the way it is and that is it?

thanks.

Right here is a warning sign: I'd caution against nesting your folder hierarchies too deep, because it takes you forever to file and find things, and multiplies your chances of filing something and then forgetting where you filed it.

I keep all my emails in one big Archive folder, because I use a Mac with MailTags and MailActOn. That means I can attach tags to every message, and that, combined with the Mac's absolutely gorgeous search engine, means that I can find anything, anytime.

If you're stuck with Microsoft, then I'd still suggest you never go more than two levels deep: that is, only have folders and sub-folders, no further nesting.

They do take suggestions on various things, because the staff drop by the forums now and again. Not sure how often they upgrade the software, though.

I can comment on some of these from the point of view of a software developer, although as I said I have no idea how often they upgrade and on what basis.

[*]Add a project:

[*]have that process create a folder in my inbox.

These two are easy enough, but this one:

[*]have a project remember what folder to file in

could be easy or fraught with difficulty, depending on exactly what you wanted. Would you want every email from a particular person to go into that folder? You can do something similar right now, because it's rather like what the Mac does with MailTags and MailActOn. I know MS boxes can do it, but I don't know how. Try googling for it, because I've seen something on the net.

If your requirements were different, however, it may not be possible, or at least not within the usual constraints (like being affordable).

[*]i would like to see subprojects have a completion pct, etc

[*]I would like to break subprojects down to tasks and do a pct complete.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what's a pct?

Hey,

thanks.
pct = percentage.

the folders never go more than 2 deep. project and subproject. Experience has shown that having these folders is invaluable. I store all email, even things that don't require an action. I shoud give them an action code. like BST :)

the task level tracking would be like thinkingRock. nothing to really to do with email storage.

I want the folder bound to a project just for the GTD functionality of moving the file. I don't like having to select the folder, then go and select the project and the subgroup. double work and would make it go faster IMO.

thanks.
