Tasks on a Mac: not Ical, not Entourage?

I´m "GTD'ing" since last week. I was surprised of consistency and reliability of Allen´s suggestions. But I´m looking for a desktop mac software in order to sync with my Palm. I don´t like Ical´s task, not categories. I like Address Book and Ical Calendar (but not Tasks), so I think using Entourage only for Tasks it´s not a good idea.
Can anyone suggest any macintosh software syncing with Palm?

I've been using vanilla palm desktop on mac for action and project lists for quite a while and am pretty happy with it. I use the linking of todo (action) items to memos, files etc extensively.

The linking doesn't carry over to the handheld but I do pretty much all of my planning and reviewing on the desktop, only using the handheld to check info occasionally when I'm away from my desk.
 
no perfect solution

I've used both Palm Desktop and Entourage (though not at the same time!). Both are satisfactory, though neither is ideal. Unlike what seems to be the vast majority of Mac users, I don't like most of Apple's basic apps (Address Book, Mail, iCal) so I wasn't forced into a multi-app situation like you face.

Entourage offers the benefit of having email under the same hood. I ultimately stopped using it because I hate Microsoft's junk mail filter so I switched to Thunderbird for email.

Palm Desktop probably syncs better with the Palm than any other app, but it's got weird quirks. The worst is how it handles notes. It took me literally years to figure out how to deal with notes and I still find it awkward in the extreme. I'm thinking of trying Entourage again.
 
Palm Desktop syncs better, but it have a trouble with Task and Notes: categories are the same for both Task and Categories. You couldn´t have categories for Notes other tan categories for Task.
 
Lack of Mac tasks support is what ultimately made me quit using a Palm handheld. Now I just use paper.

If there were a good Mac desktop app that synchronized with Palm tasks I would consider switching back.
 
The need to have the same info you have on your Mac as you have in your Palm is overhyped? Can someone tell me why? I do everything on my Palm -- Datebk5 and Bonsai. Don't need anything else. All my projects, next actions are in there.

Can someone seriously tell me why they need to have the same stuff on their desktops? Palms are meant to be with you everywhere so you are supposed to use them

Because 90% of the time I'm working at my desk with my computer. It's easier and faster to view, find, and enter data on my computer than it is on my palm. I need the information in my Palm for the 10% of the time I'm away from my desk and need to access or enter information.
 
No one right way.

A PDA is just a tool - you can use it however it works best for you. If you like using it as your main info entry tool, fine.

I prefer to use the desktop for entry and just use the handheld to have the info with me if needed. The desktop is the primary copy of my "stuff", the pda is a portable copy which I rarely update on the fly. I take backups (HDD and CD) of the palm desktop files (and have had to use them).

If I had a serious need for updates/reviewing/planning on the road, I'd probably opt for a 12" powerbook.

Life Balance might fill your bill -- you can import/export (automatically, on sync) with the standard Palm task database, and LB itself has Windows and Macintosh desktop versions as well as running directly on the Palm.
