:?: Does anyone have any success or no-success stories regarding telecoaching?

In particular if you don't feel it is useful can you explain what factors contributed to that?

Thanks.

Worked for me...

I have worked with Meg a couple of times, over the phone through a weekly review. Yes, I teach this stuff, which is exactly why I asked for a coach to walk me, step-by-step, through a complete review. In our tele-coaching, I remember hearing some questions in ways that pushed me to identify some longer-term goals and areas of focus, and then break those down to next steps.

I must add, any mentoring I've ever experienced has always been good/bad based solely on what I did with the information. When I implement what my coach taught or showed me, major good things happened. I wrote about this last week...

Telecoaching

I did the telecoaching last fall. I specifically wanted to iron out some kinks that were developing and get into the groove on doing a weekly review. I got exactly what I wanted. I worked with Meg Gott and she was very helpful. She pointed out some nuances that I was aware of but had glossed over and that were causing me some problems. All in all I had a great experience with it ... they helped me achieve what I wanted to achieve.

To Dean F & Jason

Thank you for your feedback on this. Couple more questions.

Do you feel you are black belt yet?

Jason what about you?

Do you do WEEKLY reviews?

Do you have a COMPLETE project list?

Do you have your Next Actions completely defined?

PS To Meg...building my case

Answ to more questions

Am I black belt ... I think so. Amazingly, after looking at the list, I am way more advanced than I thought I was.

Do I do a weekly review ... directly as a result of working with Meg, I do a weekly review faithfully (I have only missed once or twice since telecoaching ... and even then I quickly caught back up).

Are my projects and actions complete ... as complete as I can get them. One thing I found that enables a consistent weekly review is that you have to process regularly and faithfully in order to have all, or at least the great bulk of it, processed so you can focus at the right level while doing a weekly review.

Here is my suggestion for your consideration: write out what exactly it is you want to accomplish; call Meg and discuss your goals, etc.; then take a leap of faith that she will get you there by trying a session. See where it takes you. I would be amazed if she could not assist you ... but realize, she is the guide only, you will have to work to apply in a consistent, faithful, manner that supports your goal(s).

Hope this helps.

To Dean F. - Response to Response

Dean, I am sold on Telecoaching. I'm trying to build the case to have my company fund at least a portion of it since they will also benefit from this. This is deffinately under consideration. One of the latest BUTS I heard was, "Well you don't seem to have a problem with Time Management". I guess that's good...but, I work VERY hard to maintain what I have and keep in order including extra hours I really don't want to continue (and don't really think I need to).

There would be a deffinate advantage to master the weekly review and "mind like water"... (which if you mastered the weekly review you would be closer to that)

Your responses are helping me build my case.
Thanks for your feedback.

If anyone else has some experiences to share, please let me know.

What is the cost of telecoaching? How long are the sessions? Is there a minimum number of sessions that must be purchased?

In particular, how much will I pay for (a) David) or (b) one of his staff?

For your company ... here is the benefit

I think from my perspective I would list the benefits that my employer has received as follows:
-Facilitated getting me more focused on results that I need to create
-Facilitated getting me more focused on the flow of my life (work, non-work, family, etc.) and how that all affects my productivity
-Stressed the importance of all the functions of GTD ... ie, you can't make it truly work in my judgment if you can't bring all the various aspects together
-Caused me to review my job function definition more closely and the effect that has on my work
-Overall caused me to tighten up my methods of working

There are probably other benefits, and I am definitely a work in progress. I think that paying 1/2 would yield them a significant benefit in that it would show they cared about you as a performer. There is a benefit to them. No doubt.

Hope this helps.

I had a very satisfying phone coaching session with Meg after I took the seminar a couple of years ago. She addressed a few questions I developed as I began to implement GTD and really helped me make it work. If you're tying to establish a GTD regimen and are struggling with any of the practices, especially your weekly review or physical "stuff", a coaching session can help to break the logjam and get you going.
