Hi

I simply can - not - believe how many To Do list managers there are out there.

I am now using MLO but I am not overly happy with its complexity and although for now I am persisting, I need to keep tabs on the competition, so I have been putting them into a spreadsheet to keep track of them all.

Some dont apply to me because they are Mac/iThing only apps, but out of interest here is my list so far. It's up to 106 [EDIT: now it's 147!]

P.S. DISCLAIMER: I may have left stuff out. Please let me know if I have and I'll add them. Also any opinions expressed here are my own (!)

Why the (??) on Omnifocus? It's the premier IMO one available for Macintosh systems. Also might want to add what platforms the packages run on. Useful list with that added info.

Apologies - it's simply because it is from the Apple - only universe. [groan]

I'll tell you what, I'll edit the list to keep it correct. :)

Any other suggestions?

OK I stand corrected. Things is not "iOS only", it "Apple only". For those who have ideological problems with Apple & iTunes business practices I doubt that there is there much difference.

Look here: "GTD Software Comparison - 164 Researched Apps" and counting!

Interesting resource. Some of those listings a extremely out-of-date though, with many listings going back to 2008. Also MLO (My Life Organized) is extremely buried and seems to be called "MyLifeWorks"!

Interesting, coming from a company that created a whole different time management system based off of GTD and claiming to be better than GTD. Shilling on the GTD forums, are we?

Would that be appropriate to mention the app I've created here?
It is called Lifestyle Inspector(http://www.lifestyleinspector.com/)

Similar to MLO in some ways, but with few unique features:
1. Mind-map like display of tasks in addition to normal list/tree view.
2. Productivity reports as text and charts/tables

Does people concerned about privacy? Putting information to place that could be read by other people seems a bit insecure fr me.

Yes, I like the sound of what you are trying to do... so I have installed LifestyleInspector on my Windows7 PC.
Although it looks hopeful however the most important thing about any task manager is that the data capture needs to be extremely intuitive/ easy to learn and extremely fast/easy to use. Unfortunately you User Interface isn't good enough yet.
e.g. When you create a task by clicking "+" you should immediately be in text entry mode.
Whereas it appears that the user then needs to double-click on the text in order to change the title to something other than "new task"
OR (if you discover this) F2 get you into text entry mode... but you shouldn't need to hit F2!

In fact if you just hit the Insert key at any time that should insert a task (if that area has focus).
OR do it with the Enter key...

My best advice is go an have a long hard look at MLO and MindManager and possibly GTDNext to see what the user can do without very few keystrokes and without the hands leaving the keyboard.

Without FAST data entry the entire rest of your work is irrelevant !

But good luck. I'd like to keep any eye on how you progress.

J

P.S. I also recommend speeding up the mouseover text - they are irritatingly slow for the new user.
PPS. Also, although it is great that you have done an intro video, it is hopelessly slow moving, and to be honest I couldnt be bothered to watch it all. For best results get someone with a clean American or British accent to do the voice-over if you can.
