Using Outlook Contacts for Projects

I have recently tried to implemt the Bill Kratz method for using Outlook contacts to track projects and I've run into trouble.

I'm using his website - http://home.comcast.net/~whkratz/id3.htm - and I've followed the instructions. However, I'm stuck on step 2.

Is there anyone out there who would be willing to hear my problem and walk me through setting it up?

I'll be happy to see if I can help...

It took a little finagling for me. My point of "stuckness" was I published the form, but couldn't get it to show up as a valid option in the properties of the folder. After you double-click on the file and it brings up the form you need to publish, select publish as... and then change the "look in" to personal forms library. That did it for me.

What part is not cooperating with you?

HI, Chris. I don't think you actually need to do "Step 2". Just create some regular contacts with the names of your projects in the new "Projects" folder. When you have an item (task, note, appointment or contact) you want to associate with that project, assign it to that "project" contact. Then when you want to review your entries, go to the contact with project name and click on the "Activities" tab. All of the assigned items will be listed there.

You can try to download and use a custom project form if you want. But all it is when its all said and sifted is a re-designed and specialized contact form.

Tom, thanks for your input. I had really wanted to use the projects form that Bill Kratz made available on his webpage. I wanted something that looked different from the normal contact form.

Jessica was able to help out with the place where I was stuck. Her suggested solution did the trick.

I have been using the contacts for projects for a while and I like this since it integrates all Outlook items (except e-mail) which I can view from the contacts activities. The only problem I have is this method can not divide into sub-projects and sub-tasks. Also, the project form can not set the start and due dates. I personally change the form to add "Assistant's name" as "Project Manager" which helps me to know who is in charge of the project.

Any advice how to improve the above setback?

I've just started using Outlook 2003 Business Contacts version at work......at first glance from a few days of using it,...it puts everything into one place for a contact. ie. you can even email from the business contact and it keeps a record of all your correspondence...in Outlook. maybe this version will solve some of these issues.....?
 
Contact as Project

I have customized my Toolbar for Next Actions (Tasks) New Appointment, etc. Still trying this out to see if it is stable.
