Maintaining Productivity While Traveling

Hi, Dave.

I watched your video with DA about how to implement a GTD system when traveling. I believe you transitioned from a paper system to a digital system when you were traveling and needed portability. I remember that you mainly use Evernote for your GTD system, and that you also teach Evernote, so I was interested when I just learned that the Bending Spoons company bought Evernote a few years ago. I am wondering how you have been impacted by these changes.

I have found that Bending Spoons has dramatically improved Evernote since the acquisition. Many new features have improved my workflow.

Hi, Dave. Thanks for your response. I ran across some of your videos about this after I posted, so I learned more of the story about the Bending Spoons acquisition. I can understand that people were upset about the Evernote price increases that were out of their price range. It could be heartbreaking to have to locate new software that suits them and invest time in exporting files to that software after using Evernote for years and having thousands of notes. You say you have used Evernote extensively for over ten years, and you are invested in the software, and you like the new features, so thankfully the increased cost is worth it to you. I've personally never used Evernote, so I have no opinion of the software, but I do feel badly for the people who were priced out of Evernote. It makes me think about setting up a GTD system and how important these decisions are for the future.
 
Travel is basically the same as being sick. It tests your system, just with some different constraints on things like contexts. Suddenly you're without your productive desktop for moving the ball down the field, and instead have your phone to limp along on. Boy oh boy do you start jonesing for a physical keyboard and hotkeys, etc.

Thanks. Unless youare fully committed to a paper-based system, you are always subject to someone else's business plan. So you trade that for online availability wherever you are.
