Anyone ever have to teach GTD? Looking for slides or content...

[kwsargent1216]

Has anyone ever had to present or teach GTD? I'm tasked with presenting the system to our team, and I'm wondering if any of you GTD friends might already have some PowerPoint or other content that I might be able to make use of.

What about legalities?

That is a question I would like an answer to. Can I charge? Can I give away the book and then elaborate on the content? Can I teach the principles if I don't use the term GTD? (David did say they are "universal" and "glorified common sense.") Can I teach the content if I charge only for my time and give proper credit for anything that has a copyright for content? What is my time worth, then?

I wish I knew where the boundaries were. I would like to pass this on to a few groups I know, and I want to do it right - but it would take some time on my part to organize. It sure makes a difference being able to coach someone, versus having them only read the book.

TIA,
Gordon

His words on it

I've been thinking about this a lot lately, and I'd love to talk with either or both of you about it. Please drop me a line if you're interested.

Allen talks about it (but without much detail) here: http://www.davidco.com/blogs/david/archives/2005/04/heads_up_for_gt.html

Here's his statement:

> ...If, however, you're using "GTD" and its implicit association with me and the David Allen Company, for personal or enterprise economic gain, that's a no-no. You can expect some version of "cease and desist" coming your way.

I thought this comment was more useful:

> From a fair-use perspective, you can write about and discuss GTD-related topics all you want--you just need to attribute the material to David Allen, Co.. If you use David Allen trademarks in a formal way, you need to attribute those as well with the a (TM) symbol. "Getting Things Done" and "GTD" are trademarks. "...getting things done..." is not.

> Overall, you just need to make it very clear to anyone that your blog or service is "unofficial" and not endorsed by David Allen Co..

[Anne Gennett]

Hello, my name is Anne Gennett, I'm the Director of Client Services at The David Allen Company, perhaps I can offer you some assistance.

We are delighted for folks to share their experience with our material, and if that has you offering a short presentation on GTD to your friends or co-workers, then that is fine as long as you attribute the information to David. Any copyrighted materials you offer, whether as a handout or on a Powerpoint presentation, must be noted as such with the copyright in place.

If however, you are charging others to present our materials, implying that you are associated with us or using our name or copyrighted materials for economic gain, that is not appropriate and we would ask that you stop. I am happy to chat with any of you individually if you want or need additional clarification, I am available at 805-646-8432 or anne@davidco.com.

Kind regards,

Anne

I can see how GTD could become part of a consulting service. Is there a certification process, licensing of materials etc. I thing the "Get Clients Now" program did something like this.

I think they're working on it

... but there's nothing public yet, as far as I know.
