Did you calculate how much interest you are earning by not paying early?

Since the value of my time is very important for me I am organizing payments and other errands to save my time - not to earn $1 more per month.

Very good point. Since this procedure costs about four seconds or less per item (a second or two to put the bill in the tickler, and a second and a half to move it from IN to MAIL when it resurfaces) and some of the payments are for quite substantial amounts I'm coming out ahead.

One thing I haven't calculated is whether it actually saves time over mailing each individual item as soon as I write the check. Since my system tends to aggregate things into a few larger bunches of mail rather than lots of one-off items, I might even be saving time overall.

Hello again,

I'm gradually working through the book and sorting out my "stuff" and I can't find a ref in the book about time-sensitive things like bills-to-pay.

A bill has to be paid by a certain date, so does it go on the calendar (to feel bad when I don't get round to it that day) or on a NA (might miss the date if other things appear more important, or pay it too early) ??

What do you guys and gal do with bills that come in?

Cheers,

Andy

One thing that can help is using reliable tools to manage payments efficiently. For example, if you’re handling online bills or subscriptions, a trustworthy way to process them is through a service like get payment gateway, which ensures transactions are smooth and secure.
Hi Andy,

For time-sensitive things like bills, I usually treat them a bit differently from general tasks. I keep a separate “Bills” list or folder, rather than putting them directly on the daily calendar or in the normal Next Actions (NA) list. That way, I can see at a glance what’s due soon without cluttering my daily task flow.

Some people like to add a reminder a few days before the due date so they don’t forget, but they don’t necessarily schedule it for the exact day—just enough lead time to take action. Others use automated payments or alerts from their bank to stay on top of them.

It’s really about finding a system that lets you notice the bills without feeling stressed every day. I’d experiment with a “due soon” list and see if that works for you.

Time is more valuable than $1 per month.

Additionally . . . less "Mental Tax" . . . the down-side to being late is 'astronomical' compared to fractions of pennies

I usually just set the due date in my calendar with a reminder a few days before. That way it’s not sitting in my NA list stressing me out, but I also don’t forget. If it’s something I can pay right away without hassle, I just do it and get it off my mind.
