Drawer size for file folders?

Hi, I have a drawer for file hangers (you can hang the both sides of the metal on it), is that the right size for file folders?
It looks too big, cause when I try to put the file folders (letter size) they fall flat on the drawer.

My questions-
Do I need to hang the file folders on the file hangers?
Is there a recommended size for a drawer?
What would be a good store to look at for this size?

If you re referring to a wire rack that sits in the drawer then that is something you hang hanging folders on that you can in turn out regular folder sin or just papers themselves. There are situations in which this is really useful and situations in which it is more of a problem than a solution.
 
So if I don't want to hang anything, ideally, what is the right size for a cabinet for file folders?
What gear are you using for file folders? Where to look for it?
I know from the books that hanging folders are more of a problem, but I couldn't find any recommendations for cabinets that holds file folders without putting them on hanging folders.
 
I believe the official :) DA suggestion is to use hanging folders with ONE manilla file folder per hanging folder.

This is the solution I use at work, where the only choice is hanging folder style file cabinets.

Do you mean the A4 ring binder type of folders?

if you do, I don't bother putting those in the filing cabinet since they stand by themselves, and since each ring binder is something specific (such as all my invoices, or several years bank statements). I only use the dropdown folders for manilla folders.

Are you sure about it? it sounds a little goofy. How does your folders cabinet looks like?

I'm a collage student and a big believer in GTD, still building my setup from scratch. :D

The recommendation is to ditch hanging folders, if you can. If you can't because the files will sit too low in your drawer without them, or you don't have enough files to lean against each other to hold them up, then use Hanging folders. The reason for one file per hanging is that many people overstuff hanging folders and have some files "prairie dogging" out of the drawer. So just don't overstuff the hanging files if you want or need to use them.
 
I'm sure someone is working on a better solution. In the book there is recommendation to leave the drawer up to 75% full so you will mentally want to file stuff. From the other side I think that less then 70% full drawers the folders would not hang up. A paradox? How does your filing system looks like?
