Forum and Site Bugs

I cannot post on old threads at all.

I can't get logged in using my iPad, the workaround that got me logged on via my main mac didn't work on either of my iPad's (old first generation and newer one but not the latest). Viewing the public forums on my iPad showed lots of issues with inability to see/read the tiny fonts, colors blurring out and becoming unreadable, spacing issues with the menu bar on the main site going halfway into the grey area below so making the choices unreadable and more.

Tried to get to the site with my iPhone (5S so a current model) Can;t see any links to the forums at all on it. In fact there is no menu bar on it at all. Width of the display is wider than the screen so have to scroll sideways to see the entire text of the top connect site.

This is worse than not ready for prime time.

My very strong suggestion:

Roll back the forum SW to the old stuff and go back to the drawing board before continuing. You did do a full forum backup right? YOu are saving forum transactions sop you can recover to the old site right?

That is basic IT stuff, NEVER implement a major software change unless you can roll back to the old rev.

Not sure if this reply is progress but I'm typing from a Safari browser. I couldn't do that a couple of days ago. On the downside my forum credentials do not "stick". I have to enter them every time. I share the sentiment ... bad implementation to solve a problem that really didn't exist.

I am trying to reply to a reply by John Forrister -- but I cannot find the top menu, and cannot find the forum topics. I am finding navigation non-repeatable -- I just cannot find my way around in this new web site. My gut reaction -- this new website is awful!

Hang in there, I'm sure they will get their arms around it soon. I'm good on my iPad, but can't reply on my computer but could the other day.

Don't you think, Barb, that in this case positive attitude of the community will not help?

Let's tell the truth: "The new software does not work."

As Oogie wrote: "Roll back the forum SW to the old stuff and go back to the drawing board before continuing."

Well another bug I can't even start a new thread now. So the only way to post is to comment on someone elses post. Which doesn't show up in the timeline.

Put the OLD Forum BACK!

I agree with Oogie - Please put the old forums back. Deal with the site name change & security certificate issues first. Once they're all out & quiet, then maybe think about the forums (personally, I don't like these new ones either - very difficult to find the latest postings). I'm sure it's frustrating to the developers on the DAC side of the changes (I'm an IT Manager - I feel your pain), but the ongoing problems are getting very upsetting to customers and that's a bad path to go down...

Here's something that may help for those who are still having issues getting the "write something" field to be editable, or starting new threads. Try doing a forced refresh of the page, not just a simple reload/refresh. On Windows that's ctrl + F5. Firefox it's Ctrl+Shift+r. Command-shift-R on Chrome for Mac. You can find directions for other browsers here:

Did a clean re-install of my browser and I can finally get the write something to show up. Let's see if it will work today. Looks like the link between connect membership and forums is working this am. Overall still can't get a reverse sort on the forum thread, avatars still gone, orange color is distracting, posting is difficult, comments make no sense etc etc etc. The user interface and work flow issues I've sent in remain. All you've done is get past the can't work at all problems.

I still say the best option is to roll back to old software until you really know why you are doing this.

We've had no communication as to why you felt this was a necessary step or what you hope to accomplish or why you are putting your paying customers through so much effort for no gain at all from our POV.

To me this is like a project you start and then discover you're doing he wrong project for the wrong reasons. Time to delete this project. Or at a minimum go back and start the planning process again.

I want more communication from DavidCo.

I want to know what problem you thought you had with the old forum software that required you to screw it up so badly?

What did you hope to gain by this "advancement"?

Who made the decision to do this upgrade?

Were any Connect members asked their opinion?

Who did the testing of the system before roll out?

Come on folks. For a company that prides itself on fostering communication among people, taking responsibility for your own actions, working together to solve problems by clearly identifying them and then devising appropriate solutions, this fiasco isn't making me feel good about the company or the process you used internally to embark on this mess.

Talk to us.

Give us some explanations.

We are your loyal customers. We deserve to be treated as the partners in your business that we really are.

Here's another bug. Once you click post reply you can't see your message in the thread until you log out or at least go to the top of the forum and back in again. I liked seeing it immediately in the thread. Often I spotted typos that I missed during the creation process and could fix them right then and there. Losing this means that it's a 2 step process to fix anything like that. Go back and come into the thread anew. Not a good solution. For me that will reduce my forum participation a lot.

Oogiem and all Connect members helping us through this rough patch,

First of all, thank you for your feedback and thank you for your patience. We are experiencing more technical glitches than we expected with the Connect Forums. I can tell you that our staff cares deeply about Connect and the issues you are experiencing. Our ideal scene is to create the conditions for a thriving community with meaningful and vibrant dialogue.

I would love to work with you and the GTD Connect community to share our direction and listen to your feedback. I'd love to share with you the larger "Why" behind our new branding strategy. I agree that open dialogue is a healthy thing to do. Besides that, I've always found creative sparks fly when GTDers get together.

Here's where I could use your help and input. What is the best way to connect and hold that dialogue? If you could post your comments here that will help me formulate our next steps.

At minimum, I'd like to offer the following:

- I welcome the opportunity to meet with you one on one. If you'd like to schedule a meeting, you can reach me at mike.williams@davidco.com.

- You can call me on my cell phone: 805.448.1882. If I am unable to pick it up immediately, I will return your call as soon as I am able.

I look forward to learning from the community and learning with the community. I've added a new project on my list called "New version of Connect on cruise control." The input from the GTD Connect community will help me define the criteria that I will use to call this project done.

I look forward to your feedback.

Best regards,

Mike

Hi GTD Connect members,

The question about "why not roll back?" to the previous version of the forum has come up several times. The software that the forum runs on is called vBulletin. We were using version 4, and upgraded to version 5. That upgrade is integral to the overall new site. The new site is not just a change in design. It's an entirely new content management platform (WordPress rather than Drupal), and still has lots of custom coding. The vBulletin upgrade wasn't optional -- it was a requirement to have the forum integrate with the new site. There isn't a way to roll back to vBulletin 4 without rolling back all the site changes. The forum is definitely where most of the bugs are. Since the forum is one part of GTD Connect, and one part of the overall site, we're still on the path to fix bugs and improve the forum usability.

And, there are new features members have asked for, that we'll be introducing in this version of the forum, including more personalization, social media integration, photo/video support, and more.

So keep the feedback coming, and thanks for your patience during the transition.

Best,
John

That's one that I haven't heard before. Anyone else finding that the post doesn't show up immediately? Maybe it's particular to a browser or OS, so anyone who's seeing that happen, please include details.

Test. Will my invisible errors truly be invisible now? That might be fun!

John, I saw my post immediately. I tried, though, to add a "smiley face" and got an error message (very low priority). I also have a question: will we ultimately be able to add personal photos to our profiles? We all look the same and that's kinda boring.

Barb, thanks for testing. Did your post show up for you as soon as you clicked to save it? Or did you have to log out or go to the top of the forum and come back into this thread?
