How to resist to temptation?

Hi all,

How to resist to temptation?
Temptation in various aspects, I mean, relationships with opposite
gender, food, lazyness, etc.
 
Example

I remember, for example, when I stopped smoking.

After three years of different attempts!

After months I had just stop smoking, sometimes, arrived the temptation: " I may smoke one cigarette, only one... and then I stop again!".....

When it happened I thought basically to a couple of my principles:" I cannot come back to be a junkie, a hype like before! and If I smoke one I'll do again all that hard work to stop again.....

and now after years and years I cannot understand why I was smoking cigarettes, I cannot see today any benefit for myself as at that time I couldn't imagine my life without a cigarette in certain moment!

Strange things can happen in the life!

How would you expect an organization methodology to help you resist the beguiling of women or food? DA has said, "I can resist anything but temptation." GTD can help you externalize, clarify and organize your life's work. I don't see how it can help you resist the temptations of life. That is the purview of religion and of your own self-determination/willpower.

Expanding on what Don said: "resist temptations" has landed in your "inbox" now. And you think it is actionable. Make it a project. Perhaps make resisting each major temptation a different project. Work the natural planning model on it. Make sure to especially clarify the first two stages of natural planning:

The Purpose: Why do you want to resist the temptation? (Exactly what is bad about it?)

Vision: How would it be when you are not bothered about the temptation? (perhaps better than "...you have conquered the temptation") Describe the new situation in positive words, which you can visualize or mentally experience. "I am no more lazy" will usually not work. The more emotionally appealing the picture is, the better. The answer to the purpose will help building a positive outcome picture. Outcome pictures are a real motivator. Keep the pictures in mind.

Once these two are clear, there will be a lot of ideas, which will lead you to actions. If not, there is a lot of information available all around the internet regarding these things. You will find it.

GTD is goal neutral. It can help you develop your temptation too. If you set a goal "I want to smoke more" GTD will help. :-)
