How would you deal with continuous professional development?

As I understand GTD, the system only records stuff that I feel a commitment to. No habits etc. So if personal development is perceived as a commitment (open-ended), it represents an AOF that results in projects and next actions (otherwise not). You also don't have to include things in the system that are already a natural reminder, for example the "GTD" book on the table that I want to use to develop my personality: If I am in the right context (@home), it reminds me just as well as a list entry that there is a next step ("reading") open.

On the technicality and purity of the system 100% right. It would be incorrect to place it in your lists.

However, I find it useful as otherwise I turn my tool into a workhorse system and I never take anytime for myself, so its a matter of prioritizing that for me and my own sanity.

I have evolved this on my end.... I have a "recharge" context and these types of items sit there such as Play Piano, Guitar, etc. That came from a coaching recommendation. They never get completed or checked off, just a list of options. And while you could say they should be areas of responsibility this gets them more in my face at ready times (weekly review) on top of the piano just sitting in my living room looking at me :)

But I also have a personal development skill development context and I am starting to think about allocating time to each context to plan out my week a bit more
Nice

I am struggling with tracking reading (especially with my neurodivergence and fibromyalgia affecting my memory). I feel like reading the next page/ chapter etc is too obvious. How do folks track their learning through reading?

I have a reading list that also appears during the weekly review. I only check off the book when the book is complete so I dont micromanage it but that weekly nod during my review prompts me to consider picking up my kindle a bit more

My current approach is:
  1. Get to a point where you feel FOMO
  2. Create a bunch of projects to keep up with everything
  3. Realise that nothing on that list is more important than what you are doing day to day
  4. Archive lists or defer to someday

It is like that most of the time.

To be fair, some stuff like reading articles or podcast land in a list with just that name. They get a „Read“ or „Listen“ tag respectively. Often I will pull up that lists during travels.

Thanks Ben, the very human nature of this made me laugh. I've also done something similar and then gave up with my list. A love of learning is in my top 5 character strengths too.
