I for one have a hard time going back to handwritten systems. I still carry my franklin around, but mostly since it is a pain to pull out the laptop when I want to check schedule items. I now type way faster than I write, so for note taking and capturing large amounts of information, electronic is the way to go.
 
KeyNote is open source and does the same things as the others listed, plus allows full RTF notes.

I use a Pocket PC, which is nice for checking agenda and brief capturing of loose ends.

I watched the webcast of Bill Gates' keynote address at the CES 2006. They showed a demo of a laptop with a small screen on the top which will show you what your next appointment is so you can leave the laptop in standby while you carry it around. That would be useful.
