Software that would allow me to email information to a spreadsheet

Hello all,

I like to keep track of certain things in a spread sheet. At the moment I email myself with details that I want to go into it at various times of the day so that I can remember the information to go into it.

Is there any software that would allow me to email the spreadsheet and have the information appear automatically.

I think omnifocus allows you to email in certain information in a certain format and it will then process it. Is there a way of doing this for a spreadsheet type application - it need not actually be a spread sheet - i just use one for the lay out. It could be something that allows me to see the date, and a couple of lines of text and maybe a few numbers.

I was using my email inbox but it is a pain to keep going between emails to compare. I want it in a nice list

Any suggestions very much appreciated.

3 ideas, not investigated at all.

Open Office spreadsheets allow some scripting so you might be able to script a folder to append to an OO spreadsheet.

DEVONThink can create tables and again you can for sure script mail or folders to go into it.

Lastly, I believe Bento is more spreadsheet like so that might be an option. I've never used Bento though so not sure, just what I've seen when comparing it to DEVONThink.

You could try Google Spreadsheet for that and create a front end web form (it's one of the options in Google spreadsheet, or at least it was) to input into it.

I have had a look at google docs spreadsheet but can't figure out how to do it. I will have to have a hunt around on the internet to see if there are any instructions. If anyone has any ideas then please do let me know:D

DEVONThink is good option for you, it is easy to use. Or the "rondebruin.nl/sendmail.htm" is a site where some more options to email your spreadsheet.

Google Docs

Google Docs gets a big thumbs up from me - it's a huge help for getting sign-ups for events and sharing information.

If web-based forms are okay (not specifically email), I think a Google Docs survey form would be handy for collecting as you described.

The site walks you through making an easy online form to collect whatever information you want and the results go automatically into a web-based spreadsheet.

To get started, click Create New > Form and set up the questions/prompts you want. When you're done, the spreadsheet is automatically created for you.
