GTD Connect Moving to New Platform???

I have received two (2) emails about GTD Connect moving to a new platform (Mighty Networks) and I am wondering if they are real as there is nothing mentioned here at all. Can anyone confirm as I am leery about spoofing?
 
I can confirm as well. The New platform has been live for a while, and they are letting New members in "in bulk" - my guess is for stress-testing... Welcome over!
 
Yes, it's for real. We wanted to invite current members before announcing in other ways. And the challenge is how to invite without it appearing to be spoofing, as you said @boomer70. I emailed some folks from my work address, and still had replies questioning if the invitation is real. Using the invite form in the new platform had the same result, with members then emailing me, or messaging here, to make sure it's legit.

Thank you! With all the spoofing going on, I like to err on the side of caution. I will register.
 
I just tried to email John from the invite I got and it failed because it was routed through mightynetworks. I’ve been trialing it and I hate to be “that guy” but I’m not seeing the value yet. There’s very little activity.
 
I am glad someone posted this thread here since I saw that email come through a few times over the past few months and thought it was spam, a scam, or another test/experiment that was being ran (i.e. David was testing SubStack a while back). I didn't give it much thought until recently. You can't ever be too careful these days.

I am still largely undecided on the move to the new platform. I have mixed thoughts. There's definitely been, and still are, issues both in terms of communication and coordination in rolling it out to the community. The 75% price savings is quite nice though, that's very much appreciated and more inline with the current reality. The overall topics/groupings seem more relevant in the new platform, though that could just be what's in the with the times.

As for the platform itself, well, it's definitely more modern than XenForo (the underlying platform used by GTDConnect) that's for sure. It is not a forum platform, which is different. I am not sure it's better or worse, just different. Personally, it's pretty clear that the MN platform is not conducive to effective communication or learning. It's really geared more towards the "social media feed" consumption mentality, which is a bit of a weird choice given the GTD brand. I could be wrong though and just not experienced enough with it.

I am sure there are larger plans and more details to work out. However, at the moment, there's no reason to use the new platform in favor of the current one. I am largely ignoring the new one for a few reasons. Mostly since there's no threads to quickly gauge things and see a larger swath of information (again, it's geared for a social media mentality by having each entry be obnoxiously large "cards"). More deeply though, there is no value available in the new platform. Nothing has been cloned over to it from the current one. It's, for all intents and purposes, empty and lacks usefulness that the current one has built up for 20+ years.

I have the new GTD Connect platform on my "wait and see how it goes" list. I will say this though: not having any plan to clone content over to the new platform (as I haven't seen or heard anything regarding such) while just shutting down and losing the current platform, at any rate, would mean effectively ending GTD Connect. At that point, it would make Reddit a more effective community to then join and discuss GTD (which let's be honest ... Reddit's not a good thing per se).

That’s a fair analysis. I came to similar but congruent conclusions based on my experience with the Learning Management Systems (LMS’s), which are used by most universities today to manage most aspects of course management. It would be depressing if Reddit was more effective than the new platform. Reddit is a poor vehicle for discussing a lot of things, including GTD, because threads are usually short and lose coherence very quickly. I’m waiting too but not really looking at the new platform anymore.
 
@John Forrister, are you still in the process of migrating the content? Because if that's finished, it does seem like a lot of good stuff is going to be left out. But I guess that will just mean I'll want to make it a point to comb through the old platform sooner rather than later to find things I might want to download and save for myself.

Is it also your intention to use the new platform to replace the GTD Connect members-only section in this forum? I don't have a strong opinion about that either way, but I am curious.

There have been threads in this forum that have been biblical in length and also incoherent. Maybe Reddit is just more efficient at incoherence. In which case it's a feature and not a bug.
