Anyone got any thoughts on how to integrate GTD into conventional plans - I need to develop a marketing plan for an entire year. I cant quite see how to fit this into the GTD model...

Neil,

I'd consider "develop a marketing plan for an entire year" to be an Area of Responsibility at the 20,000' level with several projects and many actions.

It is not really a responsibility, but instead a deliverable that requires many actions (i.e. a project) with coordinated actions (uplevel to an MS Project?).

I also have a similar set of problems in that I have specific deliverables for 3-4 20k responsibilities that seem to be lost in the shuffle in GTD.

I would be very interested in how others use GTD to deliver on responsibilities.

I don't think its all that difficult. You simply have drill down into these responsibilities if they are too large and figure out what the first project is as part of the responsibility. For example, it might be to gather the data on resources and budget for the plan. But that's not yet a next action. Calling Smith or Jones re: required headcount would be.
